The Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 AT-X Pro DX II Lens' predecessor, the version I model, was the first Tokina lens I used in the field and I found that experience to be a positive one. The major version II changes are found in the Nikon mount version of this lens.
I bought this lens specifically for wide astrophotography. This is the only DX lens I could find with the fast 2.8 aperture. It allows me to photograph the Milky Way at a reasonable ISO. The focus scale in invaluable when shooting at night.
This lens is super wide and seems to take very sharp pictures. Limited range, but I highly recommend this lens.
I haven't had much opportunity to use this lens yet, but I did get a nice series of shots of the total eclipse here in Wyoming. I also got some good first attempts at wide-field astro-photography with that nice f/2.8 aperture on my 80D.
Great lens, fast auto focus.
This lens is versatile for wide shots and tight spaces. I mainly use the 16mm for a landscape, which is the best use for this, and then switch over to 11mm if i'm in a tight space like a car, and want to get as much in the frame as possible.
I use this for landscape and Astro photography. The lense is shatp and the 11mm is great. The lense is stolid and feels well made, very sturdy. The only draw back is the mode switch from manual to automatic; it's a bit old-fashioned.
