Tamron got this lens right. The 90mm f/2.8 VC Lens is well-built with an also-high score for style. It delivers great image quality and has an affordable price tag. Of course, being a macro lens, great subjects abound for the 90 VC and great fun is sure to be had while using it.
Tamron's 90mm Macro lenses have always enjoyed an enviable reputation, both in their original manual focus guise and later with auto-focus added to the specification. This new version promises faster AF, improved VC (vibration control) and improved resolution.
The Tamron SP 90mm f/2.8 Di Macro 1:1 VC USD is a fast-focusing, impeccably sharp macro lens for Canon, Nikon, and Sony SLRs.
Extremely sharp. No distortion. 1:1 macro magnification. Optically stabilized. Available for multiple camera systems.
Dim corners at wide apertures.
Another new Tamron lens, this one building on the reputation of its predecessors and definitely coming up to the mark. The Tamron 90mm Macro has been a favourite for many over the years. This one takes performance to a new peak and is very comfortable to use.
Superb sharpness, Fast and silent AF, Effective VC system, Very well controlled CA, Excellent flare resistance, Virtually no distortion, Beautiful bokeh, 5-year Guarantee
Limited mount options, Occasional AF hunting
I’ve always preferred longer focal-length macro lenses in the 90-100mm range because they give you more breathing room between the camera and skittish subjects than does standard (50/60mm) macros.
I was thoroughly familiar with Tamron’s VC from zoom lenses I’d tested previously. The question comes down to: how important is image stabilization in a macro lens? Until now I would have said I could do without it.
The Tamron AF SP 90mm f/2.8 Di VC USD macro is undoubtedly an impressive lens. It delivered great results in our APS-C scope and it is basically capable of delivering a similar quality on full format cameras. Obviously it has been improved in a number of aspects over its predecessor.
The Tamron AF SP 90mm f/2.8 Di VC USD macro is undoubtedly a highly impressive lens and it has a easy game on an APS-C DSLR. Obviously it has been improved in a number of aspects over its predecessor. In terms of resolution, it is about as good as gets.
The Tamron 90mm is a great lens that offers lots of scope for creative work. We enjoyed the flexibility of its constant minimum and maximum apertures and the large manual focusing ring performed really smoothly.
Extremely sharp even when used at its maximum aperture, the Tamron SP 90mm F2.8 Di VC USD Macro 1:1 is one of the best macro lenses on the market, comfortably outperforming its legendary predecessor with the same focal length.
I have been using the lens for about a week now. The autofocus is very fast and has been very reliable in my experience so far. The vibration compensation is silent. Much quieter than my previously owned Canon IS lenses.
Very sharp, fast autofocus, good vibration compensation at macro focal lengths, great build quality. I'm very impressed and pleased with it after having owned the Canon 100MM F2.8 L IS Macro and Nikon 200MM F4 D Micro.
