As Tamron’s macro has a focal length of 90mm rather than 100mm or 105mm, the lens has to be slightly closer than would otherwise be the case to record a true macro (1:1) image.

    Great value for money

    Wide-open non-macro MTF is poor

This lens will not disappoint you with its sharpness, which is a match for its competition especially wide open. The lens actually read out as f/3 wide open which is not quite ‘what it says on the tin’, loosing almost a third of a stop but does come in straight away with good resolution figures.

  • +

Focussing speed (for a macro), Performance wide open, Lightweight

  • -

Build quality not quite as robust as some., Peak in wrong place for Macro (but great for portraiture), Lack of a protective case/pouch

This is a review of the SP AF90mm F/2.8 Di Macro Lens 1:1This is an excellent macro lens. Performance is great (even fantastic when considering the price) as is the image quality. Sharpness is never a problem.

  • +

    Very sharp.Nice Bokeh.Excellent value.

  • -

Plasticky feel (but light because of this). The AF/MF push/pull switch takes getting used to.Not a constant f/2.8.

The Tamron 90mm f/2.8 Di Macro Lens is a popular short-telephoto macro lens - Popular because of its modest size, good image quality, decent AF (autofocus) and reasonable price.

The latest iteration of a classic, affordably-priced, mid-range macro lens.Although Tamron has been producing 90mm macro lenses since the late 1970s, the latest SP AF90mm f/2.8 Di Macro 1:1 lens is the first with Tamron’s latest Di (Digitally Integrated Design) technology, which matches the...

Expert review of the Tamron SP AF 90mm f/2.8 Di Macro interchangeable DSLR lens

Breaking the record of resolution may be an additional recommendation to buy Tamron 2.8/90. On the other hand, sometimes even the records are not helpful, for example, when a lens has problems with autofocus.

  • +

great quality of image, both in the centre and at the edges of the frame, insignificant distortion, small coma, small astigmatism, slight vignetting, accurate autofocus, after slight stopping down chromatic aberration is not bothering, solid and tasteful casing

  • -

„softness” of image for the f/2.8, slight susceptibility to flare while working against bright light, loud autofocus and quite slow in the full range mode

Fantastic macro pictures. Flowers, insects and wherever your imagination takes you. Smooth motor, easy to use. I also use a Canon EF 100mm f2.8 Macro USM for the Canon 600D. The results from the 90mm f/2.8 SP AF Di Macro Lens on the NIKON D5100 completely match the quality of the Canon, I would also...

I was given this lens by a friend over a year ago, being a Tamron I never found a reason to use it, however I recently give it a try when I had to do some Bug shots- To say I was pleasantly surprised is an understatement, this lens is damn sharp - plenty good enough for my amount of macro useage,...

great GREAT lens. Tried last night with my 2 year old and here are some results. I love how sharp the focus areas are and how incredibly creamy and delightful the out of focus areas areas. The lens feels great in my hands and it's a great compliment for my canon 7d.

Not just a bargain 3rd party lens, but a standard that is unmatched by Nikon.

Optical Quality tops Nikon, great bokeh

I don't like the lens hood.

This lens is amazing, it was the first macro lens I've owned. I've used many before this but this lens blows those out of the water, and for an affordable price.

A real brillant macro-lens. I am using the Pentax-K-mount (DSLR Pentax K 10) and the lens works really fine and giving fantastic results, even at f2.8. Strong sharpness, very good contrast, exellent bokeh....... The construction is very solid, but there is a little bit to much plastic in.

  • +

    sharpness, light-weight, easy to use

a great product not found in stores. I got the international, version. On a Canon crop sensor camera, this is a 144mm lens. Depth of field is very narrow, so I am doing a lot at f22.

This lens takes incredible macro/close-up photography. Also great for portraits. Makes beautiful out of focus backgrounds while the subject is tack sharp.

  • +

    Great lens!

Auto focus can seem a little slow in low contrast situations.

I use this with a Sony A77. I find it remakable. Everything I've shot so far has been handheld and I am very pleased. This is the first macro capable lens I've owned and I am impressed with it.

I like the range of the Tamron 90mm macro. this is a fairly versatile lens, but best for macro work. the build quality leaves much to be desired, the autofocus cooked some time ago.
