Over the course of the past several pages, we've taken an in-depth look at the optical and mechanical performance of this compelling fast normal prime lens from Sigma.

  • +

Fast F1.4 maximum aperture, Convenient focal length on APS-C, Beautiful bokeh, Excellent center sharpness, Compact and easy to hold, Minimal vignetting at F2 and above, Resistant to flare and ghosting, 4-year warranty (USA), Very affordable

  • -

More distortion that we'd like to see in a premium prime, Purple fringing near edges/corners, Low contrast wide-open, Somewhat heavy given its size, Average corner sharpness, Not weather-sealed, Sluggish autofocus

I may complete a full Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC HSM Art Lens review in the future, but please use the standardized test results currently available for this lens.

Overall, the new Sigma 30mm ƒ/1.4 DC Art is a fantastic APS-C fast prime lens that delivers great image quality with nice, sharp images, low vignetting and only slight barrel distortion. While CA is bit more pronounced versus its predecessor, overall it's a very minor issue.

26 September 2016

Weighing only 435 grams, the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC Art lens is light enough to be used while travelling and its 45mm equivalent focal length is close to the classical 50mm focal length that was popular with 35mm film photographers.

During this test, we did have issues with inaccurate focusing, which may be down to a flaw with the samples provided for review, and were able to resolve using the Sigma USB Dock .

It would be difficult to complain about a lens which is better than its predecessor practically in every category and only slightly more expensive. What’s more, taking into account the fact that we deal here with a novelty, you can expect that its price will drop further, drawing level with the...

solid-looking, high quality casing,, excellent image quality in the frame centre,, well-corrected lateral chromatic aberration,, not very bothersome distortion,, good correction of astigmatism,, noticeably lower vignetting level than that of its direct competitors,, noiseless autofocus,, good...

I got my Sigma 30mm 1.4 last week, and I really like it because of some very specific aspects I will mention below:1. It is VERY sharp when in focus, even if it is slow for autofocus sometimes.2. It balances the weight in a perfect way with my a6300!3.

Sharper than a razor cutting jello. I have not had any issues with auto focusing, and the lens has given me great shots so far. The bokeh is beautiful, and it gives me clean consistent shots. The size pairs perfectly with the Sony Mirrorless series, and feels sturdy once attached to the body.

This is all I use right now on my a6000. Had this for a year now and didnt realize there was a firmware update that fixed the manual focus!! Just did it now and wow this lens bumped up to a 5 star. Obviously if you buy it new now, you wont have to worry about this. This lens is a must buy!

As a long time photographer, with experience in film formats from 35mm - 8x10 view camera, I appreciate good optics, but also a light, sharp and fast lens for back country photography. I'm new to MFT as a format, and so as I began to research a purchase, this lens kept popping up as a great value.

I was looking for a prime lens for use in low light situations, and after some research I settled on this lens. Although it has an unpopular focal length, I find it to be more natural and less distorting than the typical normal Micro Four Thirds focal length, 25mm.
