The Sigma 30 F1.4 DC DN | C is a great autofocus F1.4 option for Micro Four Thirds. While it doesn't take the top spot for sharpness, it offers good, consistent performance across the frame for much less price than the competition.

Portraits, subjects needing shallow depth of field

The field of view is a bit too narrow to be a do-it-all prime

Reasonable size and weight, excellent image quality, large f/1.4 aperture, superior build quality and a good price all mean that the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC DN | C lens is worthy of the consideration of Sony E-mount users.

Given that Sony has been concentrating less on developing its APS-C lens line-up and more on augmenting its range of full-frame E-mount lenses, it is encouraging to see that Sigma has stepped up to the plate with an APS-C offering that’s hard to refuse: the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC DN.

This new Sigma lens is part of the Contemporary range. It offers a bright f/1.4 aperture and on Sony E mount APS-C format cameras offers a “35mm equivalent” of a short standard lens of 45mm. The MFT fit version offers the equivalent of a long standard lens of 60mm.
Should the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC DN standard lens be top of the list for Micro Four Thirds, Sony E-mount, and Fujifilm X-Mount users? Richard Sibley finds out, with an update now the lens is available in X-Mount.

The Sigma 30mm f1.4 DC DN is a standard lens for mirrorless cameras with 'cropped' sensors, available in the Sony E and Canon EF-M mounts, as well as for the smaller Micro Four Thirds format.

A relatively new lens from Sigma’s much-acclaimed Global Vision range, the 30mm f/1.4 prime offers exceptional optical quality, and is the cheapest autofocus lens in test . At a very respectable 264g and a compact 74mm, it falls into the portable category well and fits into any traveller’s kit bag...

The Sigma 30mm F1.4 DC DN | C is one of the sharpest lenses available for Sony E-mount, and costs less than many of the prime lenses it outperforms. Combine that with being one of the brightest autofocus lenses available as well, and the result is an excellent lens for anyone interested, whether...

High magnification/macro shooting, or shooters that prefer prime lenses with a wider field of view, or use in inclement weather.

When you compare the results achieved by the Sigma C 30 mm f/1.4 DC DN and the Panaleica DG Summilux 25 mm f/1.4 ASPH. it seems the Panasonic company chose the wrong address. Instead of luring customers with a logo of a fading legend they would have fared much better if they had struck a deal with...

I bought this lens because i wanted mid focal length on apsc camera; wider than 50mm and quality like the latest sigma. I also have sigma 18-35mm f1.8 which also gives the same performance at 30mm but it's too heavy and not practical to carry around.

Very sharp. Excellent optics. Nice contrast. Works well on dual pixel AF. Fast AF. Smooth focus ring. Solid built. Comes with hood.

A bit heavy than a 50mm nifty fifty. No in-body manual override. No IS.

I don't know much about cameras or lenses but I recently purchased a lens for my Sony Alpha 6500 which came with two kit lenses. Kit lenses are good to start with but are no where near close to using cameras potential. This is my first lens purchase and I can't be more happy with it.

I love this lens so much. One thing that bothers me sometimes is the autofocus. I say roughly 80% its fine but sometimes it either misses focus completely or just wont seem to "grab it". Also purple fringing is pretty bad in bright light but I dont rlly care since Im just a hobbyist.

The Sigma 30mm f1.4 lens is a powerful little lens that produced AMAZING bokeh effect for all my work. I absolutely loved it for photography! However, there is no OSS in the lens, which--paired with a Sony a6300 provided disaster during all my filming. Great performance in low-light, as well.

After a week of using it on my current vacation I am in love with it. Sharp even at f1.4. Good and fast af. Be ready to experiment with the multiple af options that came with Sony cameras. Manual focus is a bit sensitive, it's ok though. You can't get any better at this price range.

This is a wonderful multi-purpose lens for the Sony a6xxx series. Given the 1.53 x crop factor, you get an equivalent 46mm focal length which is nice for portraiture and some walk-about situations. The lens is crisp and clear, even corner-to-corner. Bokeh is also quite nice wide open.

Love it! It's such a great lens.

Fast, fast. Great auto-focus, reasonable size and weightThe lens produces excellent images - contrasty, good colours and excellent resolution. The f1.4 is its superpower, allowing for terrific foreground separation, unparalleled in APS-C. Believe the hype and it's a bargain.

Using this lens on a6000, primarily for travel, and I’m very satisfied with the sharp images. DOF is also excellent when aperture is wide open.
