The Canon PowerShot SX610 HS is an attractive compact camera with an 18x zoom lens, but image quality takes a step back from last year's edition.
Compact. 18x zoom lens. Quick focus. Creative Shot mode. Crisp rear LCD. Wi-Fi.
Image quality suffers at moderate ISOs. Slow continuous drive mode.
The Canon PowerShot SX610 HS updates last year's SX600 with the addition of active NFC (Near Field Communication), a new higher resolution LCD display, and a new 20.2 megapixel "High Sensitivity" image sensor.
18x optical zoom lens in thin camera, Built-in Wi-Fi and NFC connectivity, Very easy to operate, Shutter lag performance is very good in normal lighting conditions, Full HD video recording, 20MP of resolution, Variety of special effect photos are fun to use, Automatic zoom follows a moving subject,...
Image quality could be better, Small 1/2.3-inch image sensor, Plenty of noise in images shot at mid-ISO range, Continuous shot modes are slow, Shutter lag with flash is poor, No aperture priority or manual control options, Control buttons on back of camera are too small and too tightly set to camera...
This ultra-compact ultra-zoom offers a 20 MP sensor and a stabilized wide-angle 18X optical zoom lens. It's 1/2.3" high-speed CMOS sensor allows it to catpure full HD video and fit a huge 25-450mm focal-range by keeping a small maximum aperture, F/3.8 at wide-angle and F/6.9 at telephoto.
Ultra-compact 18X optical zoom, Low noise until ISO 200, Good metering system, Nicely saturated colors, Low distortion, Generally responsive, Light yet feels solid
Visible noise at all ISO sensitivities, Dim max aperture, Limited dynamic range, Slow autofocus speed, 1s Video-Record delay, Slow playback mode, Very few direct controls
While Canon's PowerShot SX610 HS camera has reached the 20 megapixels of resolution threshold -- a level of resolution that seemed unlikely for most point and shoot cameras just a few years ago -- just reaching 20MP isn't enough to guarantee that the SX610 is a great camera.
I am just learning how to use this camera, but it seems pretty intuitive. I plan to take it on my next trip , so I will know better later. One stumbling block for me is my current inability to upload into my desktop. I still have Windows XP and it is compatible with 7 and 8.
Nice feel in my hands
Problem with uploading into computer.
Overall, this a great little camera, though the small size can make it a little slippery to handle with big hands. It has a lot of cool features, but also some minor issues, and missing features, that might turn some people off. They almost have it right with this camera.
*Sleek look *18x Optical Zoom *Picture size is adjustable (less resizing) *Great picture quality *Includes HDMI and A/V outputs *Lots of cool features
*Does not use a simple USB connection for transferring photos and video to computer (must use wi-fi to upload to server) *Pop-up flash can get annoying (you have to raise it manually) *Hand grip is a little small, which makes handling the camera a little tricky, especially for people with big hands...
I took this camera to Yellowstone this winter. The photos so far look great on the camera. I cannot even begin to download them anywhere. I cannot even find the software online they say I need. I have always used Canon cameras and printers.
Excellent deal for the picture quality and brand.
Specs and brand.
Slightly tall in size.
So far I love it. I had no problem connecting to WiFi. The pictures are great. The battery lasted 8 days of my 10 day vacation. It was nice to have a second battery all ready to go.
Purchased this camera for my wife for Christmas. It's a very nice camera and I like being able to send the pictures via wifi to my computer. Two small drawbacks. 1) It does not come with a memory card. I suggest at least a 32gb SD card.
I had this camera only a short time and used it only about 15-20 times and the complete lens portion fell out
Fantastic camera at a reasonable price
excellent camera - still and motion. great price!
