The Canon PowerShot SX610 HS is the latest basic point-n-shoot model from Canon, but there just isn't much in this camera that will make you take notice of it. The SX610 offers 20.2-megapixels of resolution, but its image quality simply isn't where it should be for a camera with that much resolution...

  • +

18x optical zoom lens in thin camera, Built-in Wi-Fi and NFC connectivity, Very easy to operate, Shutter lag performance is very good in normal lighting conditions, Full HD video recording, 20MP of resolution, Variety of special effect photos are fun to use, Automatic zoom follows a moving subject,...

  • -

Image quality could be better, Small 1/2.3-inch image sensor, Plenty of noise in images shot at mid-ISO range, Continuous shot modes are slow, Shutter lag with flash is poor, No aperture priority or manual control options, Control buttons on back of camera are too small and too tightly set to camera...

It's the keep-it-simple principle that makes the Canon PowerShot SX610 HS so appealing for those who prefer a no-fuss, no-muss approach to photography, especially for video, which can be overly complicated to shoot, edit and share.

  • +

Easy to use, Smile and blink detection, Quiet zoom for video, Built-in Wi-Fi, Built-in image stabilization

  • -

    No viewfinder, Low-profile controls

This ultra-compact ultra-zoom offers a 20 MP sensor and a stabilized wide-angle 18X optical zoom lens. It's 1/2.3" high-speed CMOS sensor allows it to catpure full HD video and fit a huge 25-450mm focal-range by keeping a small maximum aperture, F/3.8 at wide-angle and F/6.9 at telephoto.

  • +

Ultra-compact 18X optical zoom, Low noise until ISO 200, Good metering system, Nicely saturated colors, Low distortion, Generally responsive, Light yet feels solid

  • -

Visible noise at all ISO sensitivities, Dim max aperture, Limited dynamic range, Slow autofocus speed, 1s Video-Record delay, Slow playback mode, Very few direct controls

While Canon's PowerShot SX610 HS camera has reached the 20 megapixels of resolution threshold -- a level of resolution that seemed unlikely for most point and shoot cameras just a few years ago -- just reaching 20MP isn't enough to guarantee that the SX610 is a great camera.

The Canon Powershot SX610 HS updates last years SX600 HS with a new design with improved handling, and adds a 20 megapixel sensor instead of the 16 megapixel sensor in the previous version.

  • +

18x optical zoom lens with image stabilisation, Good 3inch screen, Wi-Fi / NFC connectivity, 400 shots with ECO mode, Quick focusing, Good rubber grips

  • -

Increase in megapixels has resulted in more noise, and slower continuous shooting, Lacks automatic panoramic shooting mode, Lacks auto HDR shooting mode

A small PowerShot digital camera, for those who do not know a PowerShot can be little larger than an IXUS the smallest of Canoncameras or as large as the small end of Canons DSLR range, so here it is at the IXUS end of the range.

The Canon PowerShot SX610 HS is a well-designed camera that’s easy to use thanks to its chunky, ergonomic build, logical controls and an intuitive menu design. You can also be sure it’ll snap accurately focussed and well exposed shots.

Best thing about this camera is its small size. It doesn't make use of dim light, as do other Canon cameras, so lighting is a serious issue. Image distortion at the edges is also distressing.

I took this camera to Yellowstone this winter. The photos so far look great on the camera. I cannot even begin to download them anywhere. I cannot even find the software online they say I need. I have always used Canon cameras and printers.

Overall, this a great little camera, though the small size can make it a little slippery to handle with big hands. It has a lot of cool features, but also some minor issues, and missing features, that might turn some people off. They almost have it right with this camera.

  • +

*Sleek look *18x Optical Zoom *Picture size is adjustable (less resizing) *Great picture quality *Includes HDMI and A/V outputs *Lots of cool features

  • -

*Does not use a simple USB connection for transferring photos and video to computer (must use wi-fi to upload to server) *Pop-up flash can get annoying (you have to raise it manually) *Hand grip is a little small, which makes handling the camera a little tricky, especially for people with big hands...

Love this camera. My first one was stolen and I bought the same one to replace it. Excellent point and shoot camera. Especially like the wifi feature. Nice convenient size.

I had this camera only a short time and used it only about 15-20 times and the complete lens portion fell out

Very satisfied with this purchase, I have high end Nikons and a nikon point and shoot. The quality on this is great. I am using for quick shots at customer's locations and short videos.

It's just a great starter cam at a cheap price i consider this cam to be better than DSLR for beginners, it has great zoom 18x optical zoom which is the equivalent of 25-450mm Lens, great focus system as well.

I have just discovered that my Canon PowerShot 610HS did not have a battery charger in the box. I bought the camera November 2016 and just now realized the battery was dead. I am not even sure what kind of charger is needed.
