Recommending the T5i for still photography is a no-brainer. It’s easy to use, takes quality images and has enough technical headroom so you can spread your creative wings if you care to.

  • +

Fine 18MP still images, Helpful vari-angle touchscreen, 5 fps burst mode

  • -

Build quality not the greatest, Video focusing improved but issues remain, No wireless connectivity

The Canon T5i might not be significantly different to the T4i, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. It retains everything we loved about its predecessor, comes with a better lens, and yet costs even less.

  • +

Excellent image quality; 9 cross-type AF points; Stereo microphones; Built-in touchscreen; Multi-shot modes; Improved kit lens; Even more affordable., Less expensive than the camera it replaces, 18-55mm STM lens is very quiet, and above average image quality for a kit lens, Solid body with no panel...

  • -

Little-changed from the earlier T4i; Slow Live View and video autofocus; High ISO performance is unimproved; Below-average battery life; No dedicated AF illuminator., Only one control dial, LCD monitor is a bit glossy for our liking, Dynamic range not as good as competing models, though HTP helps,...

The Canon EOS 700D / Rebel T5i is an upgrade to the 650D almost in name only, but still combines very good image quality with a comprehensive, well-designed touchscreen interface.

  • +

Comprehensive touchscreen interface that is intuitive and efficient, High image quality with good balance between detail and noise reduction in JPEG output, Good subject tracking AF in viewfinder shooting mode (compared to mirrorless competition), 5 fps with ample buffering in JPEG-only mode, Very...

  • -

Slow 'hybrid AF' performance in live view and video modes (compared to mirrorless competition), Slightly higher noise levels than its peers, Default dynamic range lags a bit behind its peers, Using flash with Auto ISO enabled results in ISO 400 even in bright light conditions, Cannot configure...

The Rebel T5i is called the upgrade to Canon's Rebel T4i DSLR camera from last year, but it's more like a very close sibling. Canon only made a few changes to the T5i versus the T4i. This fact makes it unlikely that Rebel T4i owners will want to consider the T5i.

  • +

Image quality is very high, Extremely fast performance in Viewfinder mode, Very fast start-up, Articulated, high-resolution LCD is nice feature for shooting with a tripod, Touchscreen LCD makes it easy to control camera for beginners, Ports included for both HDMI and microphone, Full HD video output...

  • -

Not enough improvements from Rebel T4i, Autofocus works too slowly in Live View mode, creating significant shutter lag, Although autofocus in video mode is improved from past Rebels, it's still slow, Autofocus illuminator lamp only works when the flash is engaged, Camera's on-screen menus should...

While the Canon EOS Rebel T5i is -- almost literally -- the same solid camera as its predecessor, it's starting to lag frustratingly behind the competition in some ways.

  • +

The Canon EOS Rebel T5i retains the great articulated touch-screen implementation that's optimized for video, and delivers the same excellent photo quality and solid video as its predecessor. Plus the performance is slightly improved.

  • -

The phase-detection autofocus system is feeling its age and competitors have caught up with the Live View performance. The tiny autofocus points in the viewfinder also remain annoying to use, and the feature set remains lackluster.

6.0/10

The Canon EOS Rebel T5i is an entry-level DSLR following the classing Rebel line with an 18 MP sensor featuring built-in Phase-Detect AF. This is a light yet moderate-sized camera which is comfortable to hold and a relatively good number of direct controls, although a single control-dial.

  • +

Low image-noise, Good metering system, Accurate autofocus, Exposure-Priority Live-View implementation, Generally responsive, Good construction, Relatively light

  • -

Some image softness, Limited dynamic-range, Too few AF points, Small and dim OVF, Instant-Review delay, Buttons too flush

The Canon EOS Rebel T5i is essentially the same camera as its predecessor, and it's still a solid performer.

  • +

Fast to start and shoot. Sharp, articulated touch-screen LCD. Compact. Nearly silent video autofocus when used with STM lenses. 4fps shooting. Good image detail at high ISOs. Fast autofocus.

  • -

Small pentamirror viewfinder. Very limited burst shooting in Raw mode. Video autofocus is choppy with non-STM lenses.

The Canon EOS Rebel T5i (700D) is the replacement of the EOS Rebel T4i but in many ways is quite similar to its forerunner. Just like the T4i it uses an 18MP APS-C-sized sensor, has a compact body, a swivel monitor, Full HD video recording, and numerous helpful functions for beginners.

With its excellent balance between price, performance, size and image quality, the Canon EOS 700D is a camera that fits in perfectly with its market segment by offering a competitive and very attractive by Photographer’s fans, but budget-conscious.

Excellent image quality, Multi-touch screen adjustable, From 5 fps burst, Excellent ergonomics, Good-quality video.

  • -

Slow AF in Live View, The keys feel cheap.

I am an amateur videographer, looking to dive into DSLR filming. It's a great kit for getting started. It took me a little while to adjust and getting used to it since it's definitely not a point-n-shoot camcorder.

My Canon T5i Video Creator kit arrived today. I could not be any happier. It came on time and arrived with everything that was advertised on Amizon. I would strongly recommend this Amizon partner. The kit comes with just about all I need to get start on my new hobby of YouTube car reviews.

Used this camera for criminalistics functions for work. Works flawlessly. Took better quality pictures than coworkers with more costly Nikons. Aperture, exposure and iso easily changed. All I use is a 18mm to 55mm and a 60 mm macro lenses to handle almost any scene.

I did a lot of research comparing DSLR for features, pros vs. cons, etc. and ultimately for the price. Although a full-frame sensor is preferred for professional photography, I would not label myself as such and decided a crop-sensor like on the T5i would suit me and my purposes of snapping photos...

This is an update to my post from 12/16 now that I've had an opportunity to play with the camera. This is my first DSLR. I've always been a Canon fan. In my film days I used a Canon AE-1 Program. This package provided everything I needed to get going. Recent previous cameras include PowerShots.

I have family members with more expensive cameras that pale in comparison to this one. It far exceeds my expectations. People frequently ask what camera I use after viewing pictures. It is a great camera.

  • +

I have never seen any other camera compare to this. The picture quality is fantastic. This camera pics up things I can't see with my own eyes. Colors are spectacular. This is an easy camera to use. The lens makes a perfect match for this camera.

A little heavy??? No cons really.

Don't let the poorly made tripod scare you away from the bundle. It is a well "worth your money" purchase. Everything it comes with, from the starter DVDs to the SD card readers, is really helpful.

  • +

I really liked the variety of equipment the bundle came with. It's a great starter kit for any aspiring photographer or filmmaker. The camera is incredible, the lenses are pristine, and the rest of the gear is exceedingly helpful. Without a doubt, this bundle is worth your money.

  • -

The biggest issue I had with this bundle was the tripod. The tripod is immensely flimsy, and I don't trust putting my camera on it. We all know that a tripod is crucial to photography and filmmaking, so I expected to use it when I bought the bundle.
