I absolutely love this lens. I had researched it extensively, trying to decide between the Zeiss f/2 Planar and this f/1.5 Sonnar. I was very concerned about the focus shift issue for this Sonnar vs the seeming lack of complications (and the reliable sharpness) of the Planar.
Got mine in October 2015 and it is extraordinary. It's a great addition to a leica 50mm elmar as the two lenses have distinct characters and uses. I have had no focussing issues using an M9. It focusses perfectly through all apertures but needs to be technically understood.
Fine product, though almost as overpriced as a Leica product.
The lens has some unique features and overall it is really something I like having in the bag.The lens is small and light.. Big plus. The lens produces a very unique and favorable bokeh and is great in applications like portraits or still life.
Well constructed. Solid. Works as it should.
Can't complain about the quality, fit and finish of this lens hood. Although I would like to see Zeiss redesign the lens hood so that it blocks less of the viewfinder. Zeiss should take some it's design cues from the newer version of Leica lens hoods.
I use a lot of Leica cameras and glass. However, I don't like changes lens and having to go into Lightroom/Photoshop and remove the dust so prefer to leave the lens on the camera. Saying that I generally only use 35mm and 50mm lenses on my cameras and having eight Leicas that a whole lot of cash if...
Nice finish matching that of the lens, and does its job. As others have said, it would be nice if it came with the lens instead of being a separate purchase. Obviously that hasn't stopped anyone from getting it. A good product.
If you're looking for an extremely compact lens at the expense of some features. I got this lens with the intention of using it on my A7S for both photos and video. As a photo lens its very good I had no complaints other than the close focus is 3' when a lot of other 50mm's can focus to around 18".
Bottom Line: It's a lens hood.. it prevents unwanted glare and it should have just been provided with the lens itself. We already paid $ for the lens and this small piece of metal should have just come along as a package deal.
