The Zeiss Loxia 2/50 is one of the best modern manual focus lenses out there, and is worthy of being called Editors' Choice.
Sharp from edge-to-edge. Superb manual focus experience. Physical aperture ring. Compact. Excellent build quality. Dust and splash resistant.
A little distortion. Lacks image stabilization.
I'm very, very pleased with the Loxia 50 that I got last month! Its rendering is lovely with great microcontrast and 3D, and size, weight, and feel are perfect with my A7RII. I much prefer it to the Sony 55/1.8 that it replaced.
I have purchased more than 10 lenses in the past 3-4 years and this lens by far is my favorite. I use it with my Sony A7s and purchased mainly for shooting videos, but I shoot a lot of photos with it too. After practicing enough, you can get good with using manual focus.
So crisp and clean! So happy with this lens.
Unfortunately, I had to send mine back when in the first hour of operation I noticed some play in the aperture and focus bezels when I inadvertently tapped them with my knuckle while making exposure adjustments on my Sony A7Rii.
I spent more time debating this lens than I have any other I've owned. Despite having read nothing but fantastic reviews, I just wasn't quite sure until I got my hands on one and really put it to practice. The focus ring is an absolute treat. Butter-smooth with very useful hard stops.
Bought this to pair with my a7ii. Just great. Amazing rendering of colors. Very nice to be able to shoot a MF lens in A mode.
This is a good manual focus lens for still and video photographers. It is well integrated with the Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras,
Fun little lens and cracking good optic
Fantastic lens. Now I want to get the 21mm variety.
One of the reasons I decided to switch from my Canon camera system to Sony Alpha (A7II to be exact) was because of this Loxia 50mm lens. It is a terrific lens for anyone looking for a very sharp 50mm. The bokeh is beautiful and the manual focus ring is buttery smooth.
