The decision to buy this lens over the GM 1.4 is not that easy. This lens perfectly fits my needs and I have no regrets of buying it. The color rendition is amazing, its lighter & smaller than the GM, and most of all the price difference. Other feature that I love about this lens is the OSS.
I bought batis and g master (money wasn't an object - I Wanted the best) - compared them side by side and was shocked how good is bats ! theres no CA exist ,Contrast is phenomenal, bloody sharp - sharper than GM at 1.4 -1.6 , same sharp as GM at 1.7 - yet without CA , GM has severe CA at 1.4 and...
Hands down the best piece of glass available for E Mount. Zeiss are so far ahead of everyone else with this one. Truly magnificent.Extremely forgiving in low light/high ISO (very important for me as a concert photographer)Great build.Beautiful coloring.
Camera: A7RIII used this during a car club shoot recently and stuck with this lens the entire time to see what it was good at in all sorts of situations. One thing I did notice is that it hunts and quite a bit sometimes. Doesn't matter what range, it'll do it.
I'd give it 5 stars, but for the price, I wish it was a stop faster and the bokeh is just good, not great. It's VERY sharp and contrasty, it's light, it looks cool and has a cool OLED that looks cool and it's unique. This lens feels PERFECT on my a7rii and is a little big for the a6300...
I rented this lens for two weeks, and took about 1,000 shots with it. It is definitely one of the sharpest pieces of glass I have put in front of a digital sensor. The shot below is a 100% crop of my eye taken by my wife wide open at F/1.8 ISO 800.
I waited 6 months before finally doing a review. I have this monster paired with an A7R2... the Zeiss Batis 85mm f1.8 is by far my favorite lens in my collection. I did the research and knew it was what I wanted, after being on the wait-list and getting it July of 2016 I could not be more happy with...
This lens is a great addition to anyone for hire doing people pictures.
Use it with my sony a7sii for wedding videography
This is a great lens for taking pictures of people in groups or activities, especially in low light. It is an amazing lens and my go to lens if I know I will be taking pictures of people, otherwise I love my Loxia 50mm for walking around town.
