I previously owned a Velbon tripod which was really good, so I naturally assumed this one would be good too. Unfortunately the 538 is really light duty. I should have studied the weight of the tripod, it only weighs 4 lb in the box (with the carrying case).
I use this tripod with a small HD consumer video cam with a filmmaking class of HS students. It is durable and meets all of our needs the fluid head is nice and smooth.
Bought to enhance DSLR videography. Delivers in spades.
Easily Adjusted, Smooth Movement
I use this for filming inteviews and seminars and its great for static shots as solid fixes in position well however if you intend to do titling and panning mid shot its not great, panning is ok but tilting is an issue. Also when you lock it in place the head moves as you tighten the lock.
Compact, Easily Adjusted, Good Footing, Lightweight, Locks In Tight
