The Tamron SP 24-70mm f/2.8 Di VC USD G2 lens undercuts similar zooms on price and delivers strong image stabilization, but it makes some optical compromises to get there.

Sharp results at f/2.8 at wider angles., Strong image stabilization system., Excellent build., Dust and splash protection., Available for Canon and Nikon SLRs., Low price.

Image quality suffers beyond 50mm., Noticeably dim corners., Chromatic aberration at 24mm., Some visible distortion.
The Tamron SP 24-70mm f/2.8 Di VC USD G2 (model A032) is a stabilized standard 2.9x zoom available in mounts for Canon and Nikon DSLRs with full-frame sensors. It also works on their DSLRs with APS-C/DX sensor where the angle of view is equivalent to a 36-105mm zoom lens.
The ‘Generation 2’ edition of Tamron’s 24-70mm f/2.8 is a major improvement...

Some handling quirks
If you had the breath to read our review till here, you may be thinking that the Tamron SP 24-70mm f/2.8 Di VC USD G2 isn't worth it. That is not our conclusion though. As mentioned above, fast standard zoom lenses are difficult to design and they always come with some compromises.
From the range of SP (Super Performance) full frame lenses from Tamron, the new 24-70mm f/2.8 G2 is a wide to short telephoto standard zoom with a bright (fast) constant aperture. The new lens is reviewed here using the 50MP Canon EOS 5DS R .
I was skeptical at first. Could a third-party lens actually match the name brands, at THE focal length for which the name brands are best known for making reliable, snappy-to-focus, nearly-indestructible, lens?
In the case of the Tamron SP 24–70 mm f/2.8 VC USD G2, tested by us here, we really enjoyed the new coatings which significantly improved the performance against bright light, making the Tamron a real leader in this category.

solid casing,, excellent image quality in the frame centre,, good image quality on the edge of the APS-C/DX sensor,, lack of problems with longitudinal chromatic aberration,, slight lateral chromatic aberration, corrected better than in the case of the rivals,, moderate coma,, low vignetting on the...

resolution on the edge of the frame near f/2.8 should have been better,, high vignetting on full frame,, distinct distortion of the moustache variation on the wider end of the focal range.
There’s always something to be said for sticking with your camera manufacturer’s own lenses, especially at the top end of the quality range. However, Tamron is now making lenses that offer similar quality at more affordable prices, and this is a great standard zoom lens for full-frame photographers,...

Could be sharper at 70mm and f/2.8, Noticeable vignetting at 24mm and f/2.8
The new Tamron SP 24-70mm F/2.8 Di VC USD G2 is a versatile walk-around lens with a fast maximum aperture that consistently delivers great images. It's very sharp throughout most of the zoom and aperture range, even at the edges of the frame, with sharpness only falling off a little shooting wide...
The Tamron 24-70 f/2.8 SP G2 lens is phenomenal. I had the Canon 24-70 f/2.8 version one and wanted image stabilization. This lens fits the bill. It's very sharp, fast autofocus, and nice bokeh. The only con is it's a heavy lens, and that's where the vibration control helps.
This is a great lens to add to my lens collection. Tamron makes very high quality lens and this is exactly what I was looking for from a standard angle zoom.
Extremely nice lens. Great for wide angle shooting or getting full body shots. The accessories were mostly low end but the price is great for the lens alone. Tamron has come so far there is no need to pay double for the equivalent Nikon lens.
This lens is quite sharp once calibrated. Focusing is snappy on my Nikon. Does have slight onion bokeh on brightest light, but easy to alter in Lightroom. Quality SDXC card is a nice perk. Very happy. #sweepstakes
Beautiful lens. Good weight. Build with (what felt like) strong and sturdy materials... but I ended up getting a bad copy. The lens would not give focused shots when using the viewfinder but would when using the live view. Lens was very inconsistent when focusing.
#sweepstakesLike the combination of fast aperture (f/2.8), image stabilization, customization (tap-in console), and weatherproofing. Canon 24-70 f/2.8 lacks IS. Sigma 24-70 f/2.8 lacks customization, weatherproofing and is not as sharp.
I have had this lens for about a week and I love it. It is quick to focus and the image stabilization is great. Came home and shot these Robins fighting over a food area.
Best all round 24-70 option for Canon full frame cameras. Faster than Canon f/4 IS. Has image stabilization that Canon f/2.8 lacks. Better imaging and customizability than Sigma f/2.8.#sweepstakes
This lens is a great walk around, every day lens. I recently upgraded to a full frame camera (Canon 6D Mark II) and none of my old lenses were compatible. This lens has a great range of wide and portrait options that allow me to take only 1 lens with me when I am out and about, and I feel confident...
The lens works fantastic. I am an amateur photographer with not a lot of time to spend with this hobby but this lens works well for most of the shooting I'm doing.
