The Tamron SP 24-70mm f/2.8 Di VC USD G2 lens undercuts similar zooms on price and delivers strong image stabilization, but it makes some optical compromises to get there.
Sharp results at f/2.8 at wider angles. Strong image stabilization system. Excellent build. Dust and splash protection. Available for Canon and Nikon SLRs. Low price.
Image quality suffers beyond 50mm. Noticeably dim corners. Chromatic aberration at 24mm. Some visible distortion.
From the range of SP (Super Performance) full frame lenses from Tamron, the new 24-70mm f/2.8 G2 is a wide to short telephoto standard zoom with a bright (fast) constant aperture. The new lens is reviewed here using the 50MP Canon EOS 5DS R .
When it comes to standard zoom lenses, the class of 24-70mm f/2.8 lenses are the photojournalists darling. They combine the most popular focal length range with a comparatively high speed.
The Tamron SP 24-70mm f2.8 Di VC USD G2 is a weather sealed lens with reliable autofocus, great image quality, and a light weight. Plus it has image stabilization.
There’s always something to be said for sticking with your camera manufacturer’s own lenses, especially at the top end of the quality range. However, Tamron is now making lenses that offer similar quality at more affordable prices, and this is a great standard zoom lens for full-frame photographers,...
Excellent build quality and handling, Superb 5-stop stabilizer, Mostly sharp with beautiful bokeh
Could be sharper at 70mm and f/2.8, Noticeable vignetting at 24mm and f/2.8
The new Tamron SP 24-70mm F/2.8 Di VC USD G2 is a versatile walk-around lens with a fast maximum aperture that consistently delivers great images. It's very sharp throughout most of the zoom and aperture range, even at the edges of the frame, with sharpness only falling off a little shooting wide...
Extremely nice lens. Great for wide angle shooting or getting full body shots. The accessories were mostly low end but the price is great for the lens alone. Tamron has come so far there is no need to pay double for the equivalent Nikon lens.
Beautiful lens. Good weight. Build with (what felt like) strong and sturdy materials... but I ended up getting a bad copy. The lens would not give focused shots when using the viewfinder but would when using the live view. Lens was very inconsistent when focusing.
I have had this lens for about a week and I love it. It is quick to focus and the image stabilization is great. Came home and shot these Robins fighting over a food area.
This lens is a great walk around, every day lens. I recently upgraded to a full frame camera (Canon 6D Mark II) and none of my old lenses were compatible. This lens has a great range of wide and portrait options that allow me to take only 1 lens with me when I am out and about, and I feel confident...
This thing is probably the best 24-70 that has IS and doesn’t break the bank. Has great image quality, good bokeh, almost no chromatic aberration and built like a tank. Almost too much so as it’s very heavy.
Great lens at a great price. Fast autofocus and beautiful bokeh.
Great kit, has everything you need for great photography. The Tamron G2 is a great lens.
Wonderful lens, and the kit contained everything I expected and everything advertised. The sling bag is particularly useful!
I've had this lens mated to my D750 for a week now and I love it. It's significantly smaller than the Nikon, half the price and I imagine 90% of the performance. Lovely build quality, it looks fantastic (especially compared with the older Tamrom lenses, is very sharp and AF is very fast.
The lens is sturdy and I can take great pics with it. Not sure why the bundle had two lens bags with it. Much better price on this lens vs. the Nikon version. Nice extras with the bundle.
