Most will find an optically stabilized 70-200mm f/2.8 lens filling a crucial role in their kits. This class of lens is one of my most-used and most-important. While I take camera and lens marketing statements with a grain of salt, Tamron in this case delivered on the "...

There’s no doubt that the Tamron SP 70-200MM F/2.8 DI VC USD , ( ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ) ( review ) is a good lens. It’s sharp, even wide open, aberrations are well controlled and the optical stabilization (VC) is very effective. So the only question is whether it’s good value at $1500.

For shooters on a budget and who aren't able to invest $2,000 on a professional 70-200mm lens, Tamron presents a solid, affordable option. There are definitely concessions to be made here, primarily in sharpness at the Æ’/2.8 setting, where the lens will probably spend most of its time.

Handling and features This brand new lens from Tamron covers the ever-popular 70-200mm range with a fast constant aperture of f/2.8. It is one of Tamron's 'SP' lenses, which denotes that it should be able to produce professional quality results and it sports moisture sealed construction.

This fast F2.8 telephoto zoom lens for full-frame SLRs delivers very good image quality and remarkably consistent resolution. The VC (Vibration Compensation) image stabiliser effectively compensates for camera shake in the Canon and Nikon versions of the lens.

Among pros, image-stabilized 70–200mm f/2.8 full-frame zooms have become must-own glass. They’re in Canon ($2,499, street), Nikon ($2,397), Sigma ($1,399), and now Tamron’s catalogs ($1,499), and we see them at weddings, sporting events, in portrait studios, and in backpacks.

The wide f/2.8 aperture and built-in image stabilisation make this lens one to consider if you regularly shoot in low-light conditions, and it’s significantly cheaper than equivalent rivals from Canon, Nikon and Sony.

Spectacular image quality reinforces the up-market build quality and handling of this f/2.8 lens, making it an unbeatable buy at the price.

I am very pleased that Tamron finally decided to launch a new stabilized 70-200 mm f/2.8 lens. Why? The reason is simple – now our choice is bigger. Firstly we deal here with a very well done construction which can provide sharp images at practically all combinations of apertures and focal lengths...

good build quality,, excellent image quality in the frame centre,, very good image quality on the edge of the APS-C/DX sensor,, image quality on the edge of full frame better than in the case of its competitors,, good control of chromatic aberration,, slight distortion – the lowest in this class of...

high vignetting on full frame,, work against bright light should have been better.

While the Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8 Di VC USD Lens is not Tamron's first 70-200mm f/2.8 lens, it is their first version to include vibration control. VC alone is a great upgrade feature, but the upgraded image quality in this lens is also big bonus.

I rented the Nikon 70-200 2.8E FL before pre-ordering the Tamron.Body and handlingIn this latest generation of 70-200 workhorses, both brands flipped the position of the focus and zoom rings, with the focus ring closer to the body.

I bought this lens to replace the 70-200mm f/4l Canon I had. I am kicking myself for NOT doing it sooner!! Honestly, I should have just saved and bought this first. It is a solid solid lens no joke. The color is amazing, it's razor sharp, killer in low light, and just does what it's supposed to.

Wow. Just wow. Impressive lens. Maybe the latest Nikon is a tad better but choosing between the Nikon or this one and a 85/1.4 for the same price there is no contest - for my budget. Six years warranty tells me that Tamron is confident about its product - in reality it's too soon to tell though.

Before I bought this lens last year I owned a Nikkor 70-200 VRII, which disappointed me. I must have caught a cucumber. It was insanely sharp in the middle but deteriorated towards the edges very quickly. After many comparisons I eventually sold the Nikkor.

I've owned both the Nikon VRII and this G2, I sold the VRII and kept the Tamron. I have used it on D810, D750, D500 and D7200. I was very pleased with the results on each camera but I'm really impressed with it on the D500 with a cropped sensor.

I like that it is black and doesn't stand out too much. I'm always paranoid my gear will get stolen...LOL!As far as performance goes, I had rented the Canon 2.8 v2 and was on my list for a while. But the price was just too high for me.
