The Sony a77 II is the perfect choice for those seeking pro-grade shooting and AF speeds for well-under pro-grade prices. No moving mirror means the a77 II can successfully use continuous AF during both 12fps bursts and video capture, a major advantage over many of its DSLR competitors.

  • +

12 fps burst with AF-C is useful for fast action, Continuous AF is effective during still and video capture, Face detection works well, Good build quality and overall ergonomics, SteadyShot is useful in both still and video capture, Ability to record video using XAVC S codec, Fully articulating LCD

  • -

Lock-on AF functionality is hit or miss, Noisy high ISO images, Heavy noise reduction in JPEG, 12 fps mode offers little to no control over shutter speed and aperture, Only 15 cross-type AF points, limited to a central portion of the frame, No way to quickly check focus in image review, since only...

The Sony A77 II hits most things right on target for a solid, high-performance, enthusiast-level DSLR. The image quality is very good, especially at lower ISOs and at higher ISOs from RAW, burst shooting performance is top-notch, and single-shot AF is blazingly fast.

  • +

Excellent image quality, especially lower ISOs; Improved high ISO performance when using RAW; Very good dynamic range; High-resolution images; Very fast single-shot autofocus; 12fps burst mode with C-AF; Good value for its class.

  • -

Lackluster continuous AF performance; Strong NR processing in high ISO JPEGs; Sluggish buffer clearing; Short battery life compared to most DSLRs; Joystick control easy to press accidentally.

Solidly built and boasting top-notch autofocus, the Alpha 77 II is jostling with high-end DSLRs at a price point that’s hard to argue with. You won’t want to push your images past ISO 6400 too often, but this really is a fine offering from Sony.

  • +

Fantastic AF with superior tracking, Excellent LCD, Solid build quality, Excellent overall image quality

  • -

Menus take some getting used to, GPS tagging has been removed, Some issues at high ISO

There's much to admire in the A77 II, but at this price that's hardly surprising. There is no shortage of outstanding cameras for around £1,000 (body only), not just in SLRs such as the Canon EOS 70D and Nikon D7100, but also in premium CSCs such as the Fujifilm X-T1 , Panasonic GH4 and the...

The Sony Alpha A77-II is one of the fastest shooting APS-C Digital SLR cameras available, with 12fps still leading the pack, although this is being matched very closely by the Panasonic Lumix GH4, which also shoots at 12fps.

  • +

12fps continuous shooting, Excellent image quality and colour, Wi-Fi connectivity, 79 point phase-detection focus, Weather-sealed body, FullHD video at 60p, with continuous AF, ISO 50 available

  • -

Raw not avilable when shooting with effects, White dots when using ISO51200

See sample images taken with the Sony Alpha 77 II It has been nearly two years since Sony’s last A-mount SLT (single lens translucent) camera. Since then, the company has had much success with its premium compacts and E-mount mirrorless cameras, leading many people to question whether Sony would...

It may look almost identical to the three-year-old A77, but the latest Mark II version has a lot of new tricks up its sleeve that take Sony's prosumer interchangeable lens camera in a more action oriented direction that will particularly appeal to sports and wildlife photographers.

This is an upgrade from the SLT-a65 which was a great camera. All i can say is that i'm glad i did. This camera is amazing. When I tell you that I've studied and compared over and over again between Nikon, Canon and Sony.........

I bought the sony in order to replace my canon 60d. I was satisfied with my canon, but this model was not fast enough in HD quality. The sony is a lot faster and i can take multiple shots without waiting for the camera to process the image, as long as you have the right SD card.

I have six DSLRs. The A77ii probably isn't the best in any of the traditional categories. But it's the camera I choose most often, and the one I would keep if I could only have one. It's the only camera I own that I would say is just a joy to shoot with. On top of that it's a screaming deal at $900.

I upgraded from a65 and love it

I updated my camera from 350a to this and I am totally in love. The quality is so much better. There is a big improvement with shooting indoors versus my old equipment. It's taking time to get used to it but so far I love it and would purchase it again.
