When a newly introduced lens has no equal on the market, it is probably exciting. With the 50-100mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art Lens, Sigma brings us an option not seen before. The f/1.8 aperture in a zoom lens covering any of these focal lengths is a welcomed first.

Is the Sigma 50-100mm f/1.8 DC HSM A as good as the first APS-C zoom lens with a maximum aperture of f/1.8? Michael Topham finds out

Sharp as a tack, great range on a DX body

Image quality and bokeh is great. However vignettes quite badly on full frame camera, especially at the wide (50mm) angle.

This lens is FANTASTIC, its better then the 18-35 1.8. YES it is big and heavy, does the fact that its F1.8 not mean anything to you about size and weight?. The people that say its not so sharp wide open need to MFA the lens or body because it is VERY VERY sharp wide open.

Excellent lens! I bought this to take to a wedding in Mexico. So GLAD I did. The lens performed amazingly well in low light situations. It is a little soft at f/1.8 but produced tack sharp images at f/2.8 and above.

Have only used this on one job so far with a Sony F5. Worked fantastically, love the look and ability to shoot at f1.8. Larger than expected but worth it.

Now I want to start this review off correctly, this is a Sigma Art Lens, so, naturally, it creates stunning visuals and is a tank. It's a bit big, especially if you're putting it on any Sony (a7s, a7r, a6300, etc.) or Canon, or in my case the BMPCC.

Ok so I own a Canon 70D and most of my work consists of headshots and portraits. In my mind, this lens was made for me. So I bought it, went outside and then shot a ton of pictures of my friend at each range in order to test it out.

I found this lens at a local photography shop and had to try it out. It fills a niche that APS-C users don't have and can substitute for several Primes as well. I took some test photos using the flowers in my backyard today and wow.
