Overall, not a bad thing can be said about Sigma ‘ s 35mm f1.4 EX. The company surely put a lot of time and effort into the design and it ‘ s worth every penny. The lens is sharp as a razor, a relative speed-demon when it comes to focusing, and has some beautiful image quality.

  • +

Cost of Sigma lens vs. cost of Canon, Nikon or Zeiss lens, Great image quality, Optional USB dock to update firmware, Fast autofocus speed

  • -

    Lack of weather sealing

The Sigma 35mm F1.4 DG HSM is an impeccably sharp optic, and it works with all major SLR systems, netting it our Editors' Choice.

  • +

Very sharp. Fast aperture. Minimal distortion.

  • -

    Heavy. No aperture ring.

The Sigma 35/1.4 DG HSM is a very exciting lens. You can produce shots with image quality you might think were impossible at a wide open aperture of f1.4. Plus the build-quality and the new design support Sigma's claim to have developed and manufactured a lens to professional standards.

  • +

Outstanding performance in the corners of a high-resolution full-frame sensor even wide open., Good build quality., Quiet and fast AF operation., Relatively low price compared to the big names.

  • -

Performance at the borders/corners of the DX/APS-C image circle could be better., No weather sealing.

The Sigma 35mm/f1.4 DG is an excellent fast f1.4 lens, particularly suitable for available-light photography under dim light. Optically, it is a huge improvement from the Nikon 35mm/f1.4 AI-S I bought in the mid 1980’s, but that should not be a surprise given the improvements in optical design in...

There’s something about a fixed focal length lens that brings the photographer out in me. It forces me to move in and back from compositions without resorting to a zoom. Yes, there are times when a zoom is most appreciated—especially the fast constant aperture zooms now available—but a prime puts me...

The Sigma 35mm F1.4 is nothing short of an optical masterpiece. Its bokeh is worth dying for, and given how demanding today's cameras are, we were surprised to see how well it suppresses chromatic aberrations, flare, and ghosting.

  • +

Exceptional bokeh, Razor-sharp, Optically-superb on APS-C, Unrivaled fast F1.4 aperture (vs. the Pentax lens lineup), Silent autofocus, Perfect for portraits, landscapes, or close-ups, Solid build quality, Professional-grade performance, 4-year extended warranty, Cheaper than the Pentax FA 31mm...

  • -

Much bigger than necessary (for APS-C), Heavy (665g), Long and bulky (with hood), Smaller/cheaper alternatives exist for APS-C cameras, No USB dock available for Pentax, No weather sealing

The Sigma 35mm f/1.4 is unlike any of the Sigma lenses we have seen in the past. I must applaud Sigma for stepping up and challenging the big brands, by spending their resources on engineering new generation lenses with amazing optics – all at a great value.

The Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art Lens is the first result coming out of Sigma's recently announced lens lineup restructuring. This lens represents a completely new look and feel for Sigma - a very positive upgrade from a physical perspective and a big hit from an image quality perspective.

Handling and features This lens is the first of Sigma's new 'Art' line of lenses that promise excellent optical quality and increased creative options thanks to a fast f/1.4 maximum aperture.

Sigma’s determined climb from an independent supplier of low-cost lenses to an optics luxury brand enters a new phase with the company’s “Global Vision” initiative. I have found 35mm lens to be so versatile with my D750 and I already have the 2.0 and 1.8mm NIKKOR lenses. The 2.0 is surprisingly good but the 1.8 is sharper and more convincing. I ordered the Sigma 1.4 in the hopes for even better IQ, bokeh, and color.

Amazing quality build, professional results for a reasonable price, incredible sharp in f1.4, very little chromatic aberration in compare to every other 35mm lens , silent AF. This lens is much better that the 35mm f1.4 Canon L series lens,

Heavy, AF a little too slow.

Very disappointed in this lens; after hearing so many raves I saved up for it, only to receive [what I believe/hope to be] a lemon. The product would not focus; it would hunt for a long time and then soft focus. It got sharp focus 1 out of 100 shots.

-Great for Portraits -Great for Landscapes-Great for studio use/ small spaces-nothing to complain about on this lens! The bokeh is amazing! The autofocus works fast and great on the 5D3!
