The Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 DG OS HSM Art is a budget take on the 24-70mm design, but falls short of the marks we look for in a pro lens.

  • +

Consistent performance through zoom range. Optical stabilization. Solid build. Dust and splash protection. Available for multiple systems. Attractive price.

  • -

Weak edge performance at f/2.8. Dimmed corners. Visible chromatic aberration. Some distortion.

The promise of Sigma Art lens quality coming to the 24-70mm focal length range along with an f/2.8 max aperture and optical stabilization had a large number of photographers signing up to add this lens to their kits immediately on announcement day.

The Sigma Art range of lenses aims at the highest level of optical performance. Coupled with the extremely useful 24-70mm range, such a lens offers the potential of a huge step up from the average “kit lens” often supplied in a package with the camera.

But let’s get back to the issues about the lens specifically. Sigma continues to offer and create lenses that are incredibly sharp, and in my opinion they’re too sharp for portraits, even on a DSLR that doesn’t have the highest megapixels. The colors are a bit too saturated for my liking too.

very solid and weather- sealed casing,, excellent image quality in frame centre,, good image quality on the edge of APS-C,, acceptable image quality on the edge of full frame,, low lateral chromatic aberration,, negligible astigmatism,, low vignetting on the APS-C/DX sensor,, fast, silent, and...

  • -

very high distortion which, additionally, at the shortest focal length, shows significant moustache deformations,, a tad too high spherical aberration at 70 mm,, noticeable longitudinal chromatic aberration at 70 mm,, monstruous vignetting on full frame.

The Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 DG DN Art is a bright-aperture general-purpose zoom for Sony e-mount and Leica L-mount mirrorless cameras, that's a viable alternative to the original 24-70mm f2.8 lenses from Sony and Panasonic - not to mention Canon and Nikon, should Sigma develop RF and Z-mount versions.

  • +

Constant f2.8 focal ratio., Sharp and contrasty in the APS-C image circle., Good black levels in contra-light situations., Reliable AF operation, Can swap mounts (at a cost) between Sony E and Leica L-mount.

  • -

Field curvature and softer performance at closer distances.

The Sigma 24-70mm Art is a fabulous lens. It’s hugely impressive in terms of build quality, handling, and the performance of its autofocus and stabilization systems. Most importantly, it simply delivers spectacular image quality.

  • +

Sublime image quality, Excellent build quality, Great handling

  • -

Large 82mm filter thread, Typically heavy for an f/2.8 zoom, Not fully weather-sealed

For many photographers, the most coveted walkabout focal length is 24-70mm, with most major manufacturers offering lenses at this range due to its extreme versatility. While own-brand lenses have often been the go-to for anybody looking for premium quality, Sigma has just released its own 24-70mm...

The Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 DG OS HSM Art lens offers a classic focal range and fast maximum aperture whilst delivering the goods in the image quality department. It's tack-sharp throughout most of the zoom range, particularly in the centre of the frame, with sharpness only falling off a little at f/2.8...

I really love the feel of this lens. I personally like lenses with some weight to them, making them feel stronger in my hands. The sharpness is amazing, I was using Canon 28-70 L 2.8 before. Images are much sharper with the Sigma. Autofocus is on point, silent, smooth and very quick.

I'm moving from Canon 5dmk3 to Sony A73 and This was the best way to make the transition without sell my L series lenses. This ale the lenses work like canon camera, fast and accurate focus, I'm afraid that I get sharpen photos with the 50mm 1.2L here more than the canon (and the adapter isn't made...

I use it with Sony A7R-III and Canon 17-40 L, Canon 70-200 f4 IS L, and Sigma 24-105 f4 lenses, and it works fine. Curiously, there is VERY slight rotational play (not visible but you can "feel" it) in the lens mount with the Sigma lens, probably within tolerances, but does not affect use or image...

I'm a family/child/newborn portrait photographer and I just purchased this lens because I shoot primarily with fixed lenses but really needed a good zoom to keep up with fast little kids that seem to be getting faster as I get older. Well, I've been blown away by the sharpness of this lens!

If you are someone that wants everything done for you - focusing specifically - this isnt for you. This will not compete with native glass. This adaptor works as good as my metabones adaptors - some better - some not as well. This is not for high speed shooting.
