The pricey Sigma 150-600mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM Sports is a pro-grade telezoom lens that is built to stand the test of time, but boy is it heavy.

  • +

Very sharp. Minimal distortion. Built like a tank. Weather-sealed design. Includes tripod collar and lens hood. Quick focus. Image stabilization system. Zoom locking mechanism. Available for multiple camera systems.

  • -

Expensive. Very heavy. Relatively narrow aperture.

Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM Sports Lens sets the bar high for build quality, performance and for range of features among the 150-600mm lenses available at review time. With optical performance just a bit shy of the most elite zoom lenses, and with an incredible range of very long focal lengths...

Specification Over the past year or so, Sigma has been gradually updating their lens lineup to fit into one of three categories, Art, Contemporary and Sports. This super-telephoto zoom lens fits into Sigma's 'Sports' line-up of lenses that promise excellent optical quality, fast autofocus and a dust...

So how do we call the thing ? Sigzilla is taken so Sigsaurus maybe ? Seriously, the Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG OS | Sports is QUITE a lens so I'd like to start the verdict with a warning.

Recently Sigma seem to have hit a fine run of form, producing interesting lenses that provide good specification, for a reasonable price. This lens continues that trend, being capable of producing images with excellent sharpness, low CA and distortion.

  • +

Excellent sharpness, Low CA, Well built, Fast focusing, Keenly priced, Dust and moisture resistant construction, Effective stabilisation, Focuses relatively close for a 600mm lens

  • -

Zoom creeps forward when pointed downwards (without lock engaged)

After the launch of the very well-done Tamron 150-600 mm I was very curious what the answer of Sigma would be. I admit the answer exceeded my expectations – Sigma presented two lenses with the same parameters but differing in some properties, build quality and price.

  • +

very solid, weather sealed casing,, excellent image quality in the frame centre for the whole range of apertures and focal lengths,, good performance on the edge of the APS-C/DX,, low chromatic aberration,, spherical aberration corrected without reservations,, negligible distortion,, very good coma...

  • -

work against bright light could have been better,, too high vignetting level on full frame.

Images are very soft between 550-600mm compared to cropped images from Canon 400mm f5.6 on a Canon 7D MK2 body. Out of the box, the sigma seem to consistently front focus, which can be easily be corrected with the dock.

This is the lens I decided to purchase, after having tried Nikon's new 200-500. There is a lot to like, not least its fast focusing (which you can set to even faster if you need it, or slower, more precise, if you want that instead.

  • +

    Lovely sharpness, fast focusing, water-resistant.

  • -

Weight, and the fact that the weigh moves forward as you zoom out.

I'm thrilled with this lens! It is a bit heavy and bulky (especially when zoomed out), but can be hand-held with fast shutter speeds and good form (for short periods), and I am a female ... I'm rethinking my wish list of Nikon long prime lenses!!

[Good]Optically great. I'd rather have 600mm fix lens with faster aperture however.[Bad]Many users have been reported the lens mount wobbling.Mine is worse with D810 AF point errors too often.None of my Nikkor lens have bad mount. The machining precision is not there.

I wanted something a bit lighter than my 500 f/4 L and with flexibility to zoom...faster to find small object then zoom in.....am happy..but loses a lot of focus with an extender on.....but with crop sensor and 600mm...that is pretty good....

I purchased this lens because of all the great reviews. I have been very disappointed with the sharpness of these pictures. I also have a Tamron 150-600 and the pictures are much sharper at half the cost. I tried the dock but way too complicated and you shouldn't need to adjust a good lens.

I purchased this lens so I could get into doing more bird photography ,it was affordable to me and after checking into my options I chose this lens based on reviews and also checking out the lens at a convention that Sigma was at .The lens is extremely well made and does everything I expect it to do...

I use this lens with a Canon 7D mark 2 and a tc-2001 teleconverter for birding it does not have A/F with the tc-2001 but I still get great pic. Sending some eagle pictures I took.
