I have been a professional singer for 30+ years and still love the SM58. This one with the on/off switch is even better so I can turn it off while the band is soloing and not have that sound coming through my mic. I love it.
HAVE USED SURE MICS FOR OVER 40 YRS. GREAT QUALITY, GOOD SOUND, A VERY GOOD MIC. USED IN COUNTRY/COUNTRY ROCK BAND, NOW USING IN A SOUTHERN GOSPEL DUO.
I bought the SM58 for home recording. I record in my living room and therefore a large diaphragm condenser microphone is just not going to work for me. The SM58 is very directional and for the most part ignores the various noises that are all around my apartment building.
While I have had Shire microphones in the past I purchased this one as I need the on/off with. I was impressed with the speed I got it and on the first gig noticed the sharpness in the vocals. Good mic-- I would buy another.
Shure Vocal Mic is good sounding and made for the studio or live performances. The only negative comment is the on/off switch. It is too soft when sliding it to the on or off position. It can easily be turned off if your hand is too close to it.
These microphones are outpstanding in every way. A lot of bang for the buck. The only thing that would make to them better is if they were wireless and we purchased these due to budget constraints.
We use these mics as rentals; mostly at podiums in our event spaces. They are really reliable, provide a good quality sound, and take a lot of abuse (I once saw one used as a gavel during a meeting - we strongly advise against that.)
I've only used it once since I got it. It sounded great but the on/off switch feels really sloppy. I have other Shure mics with on/off switches that have a very positive feel to them. The switch on this Shure mic does not feel like it engages or disengages properly. It just kind of loosely slides.
While not my favorite microphone, for this application is exactly what is called for. Bomb proof, with a switch.
The Shure 58s is keeps the 58 at the top and at Sweetwater great pricing
