I just got this lens today am have to say that the image it produces is incredibly sharp. However, I did notice that the front element wobbles/shakes ever so slightly. I quickly googled the issues only to find a large number of people also experiencing the same problem.
This lense is not for the faint of heart. Yes, there's no auto focus, but that's not to say it isn't a beautiful lense for a budget filmmaker. Not only does it craft beautiful video but photos as well, however the learning curve is a bit steeper as there's there's little things to note.
Honestly, the build quality of the these lenses is just below average. My first lens had loose elements so I exchanged it for a new one. Now only six months in and I can't see this lens getting past the 2 year mark at best.
Yikes! For the price, you can't go wrong. This is a dangerously sharp lens. Not intended for the auto-focus/auto-aperture crowd, but if you like amazing images and aren't afraid to take control of the wheel, this glass delivers the goods.
Considererd the Veydra mini cini but chose the DS line of Rokinon for half the price. Images look great used with the SONY PXW-FS5. Clickless aperture ring is smooth as silk. Lens looks great attached to the FS5. It does breath so a apply a subtle tilt or pan when racking.
use this lens about 95% of the time! Pros: Cheap grooves for follow focus ring clarity for lower stops Cons: breaths when focusing (if comparing to a zeiss or canon cinema) cheap plastic feel chromatic aberration (extremly prominent)
I shoot mainly on a Canon 80D, this lens is absolutely perfect for my uses. I have worked on campaign videos, commercial shoots, organizational promo videos and personal projects and I cannot express how well this lens works in a multitude of settings.
I love this lens. It's just what I needed to get that cinematic look. Perfect for low light situations also. However, the only minor problem the lens has is if the aperture is opened up all the way, it shows some minor distortion or warping around your focused subject if you're close to it.
Im really sad, since Ive heard only good thing about the lens and so on. It should be really sharp and have a good img quality at a t-stop of 1.5. No! Its like in the title unusable. After a exchange same thing.
Love love love. Never owned anything other than Canon L series lenses...this is my first 3rd party lens and have had nothing but good results. Great build, great sharpness and contrast. The videos that come out of my 5D mark II and this lens are insane!
