After extensive research and willingness to replace the less sensitive RODE NTG2 shotgun mic, I decided to go with this mic. I bought it for the express purposes of using it with making short films and web series. I've done a few tests and love using this mic.
I have nothing bad to say about this mic - the quality is amazing and is perfect for any video/film professional. My favorite part is that it has a pretty hot output so you don't have to have another preamp going into your recorder.
I was frankly blown away by the rich tonal quality of this microphone for my production purposes. I've watched a lot of review videos and read some reviews elsewhere and I am impressed by the quality of this microphone that costs less than the industry standard Sennheiser MKH416.
This mic is absolutely amazing! I use it for video interviews mostly and it always sounds so clear. I bought a wireless lav at the same time as this, but I haven't even used it yet, because this is just so good.
This mic is phenomenal! I've been using it for indoor interviews and outdoor b-roll shots. It gives me a perfect consistent quality recording with low to minimal background noise. I would recommend spending the money to get this mic if you are doing video professionally.
I purchased this for use in Filmmaking after I've rented and used this Microphone on a recent short film I shot and it does outperform the rest of the microphones I had on my list for consideration: The Sennheiser MKH 416, the Audio Technica AT8035 and AT8015 as well as the Sennheiser ME 66.
Excellent mic for the money. Can't complain. The build appears to be a single piece of machined aluminum, with a little connection point toward the bottom, which is really nice.
Quality mic - considered the Sennheiser MKH 416 but this is great, more affordable, alternative
Great, balanced sound on this. Side by side with my entry level (sub $200) shotgun this thing is night and day. So clear. So smooth. I'd recommend anyone wondering what mic to buy with a bit of coin in their pocket pick this up.
The NTG-3 Microphone provides broadcast quality audio at an affordable price and comes in a rock-solid metal carrying case with a 10 year warranty! I've used it already on a shoot and it worked great running off a boom p[ole connected into a Zoom F4 recorder.
