Pentax smc DA 70mm f/2.4 Limited is yet another Limited pencake lens Pentax designed for the exclusive use with its APS-C type SLR bodies. The lens was introduced back in 2006 and went into mass production around the end of that year.
What could be said in this summary? Only the comparison between the number of pros and cons shows that this lens is really worth having in your arsenal, especially that, apart from good optical properties, it is small and interestingly stylish.
interesting, original and solid barrel,, very small physical dimensions and weight,, excellent image quality in the frame centre and good on the edge,, low chromatic aberration, low distortion,, sensibly controlled coma,, relatively good against bright light work,, good work of autofocus.
too high vignetting.
Could not be happier with any aspect of this lens. Pentax Unlimited lens are great quality and have been compared to other prime lenses ten times the price. The image quality is superior to anything else in the price range!
Positive: Durable construction, Small, Quick autofocus, HD, Colors convey, Sharp, Low chromatic aberration. Negative: No WR This is my favorite lens :)
The is a great lens and gets me dreamy results good for sports as a mid range lens. does well in low light with a modern pentax camera. small size and weight and nice hood that comes with the lens. can use for portraits too .
As expected from a lens in the Pentax Limited line, the build quality is excellent. The lens comes with a very nice protective pouch to prevent scuffs to the beautiful finish. Although this is my second longest focal length fixed lens, it is the smallest lens in my entire collection.
I absolutely love this lens. I think I've taken my best photos on my K-x. Can't wait to see how it is with K-5.
Great IQ; great for portraits but also versatile for many photo application. This is probably my favourite lens that I own.
Aperture could be faster, but not a significant criticism.
Great combo of image quality, size, and build quality.
Great image quality, even wide open, across the frame. Quick AF with manual override (much improved over older 77 f/1.8. Terrific carry anywhere size.
Could be faster (aperture). Doesn't quite have the magic that the 77 LTD is capable of.
First, while I have never tried the non-HD version of this lens (the older version), I believe this lens is only an incremental improvement over the older version. I bought this lens about a year ago and then returned it.
Don't be fooled by it's little size. This is a fantastic piece of glass; great bokeh, excellent image quality, comes with hood, front and rear cap, a nice bag to keep when not in use and a brief instruction manual. From first shot you will know that you have an awesome lens.
The Limited marque is the premium range of lenses for Pentax DSLRs, owned these days by Ricoh. Limited lenses are made fully from metal and glass, not the more lightweight plastic found in other models and is hand machined in production.
