This is the widest of the three Pentax FA Limited lenses, all of which were designed for use on film cameras. They are hand assembled to the highest standards in high grade aluminium and expected to have optical performance of the highest order.
Comparing the results of the tested lens to those achieved by such lenses as the Nikkor 1.8/35 or the Sony 1.8/35 and taking into account the difference in price, it would be difficult to describe the performance of the Pentax in positive terms.

Excellent build quality,, Very good image quality in the frame centre on slight stopping down,, Decent image quality on the edge of the frame,, Slight chromatic aberration,, Negligible distortion,, Low vignetting,, Well-corrected astigmatism,, Fast and accurate autofocus.

Not satisfactory image quality near the maximum relative aperture,, Distinct coma already in the corners of the APS-C/DX sensor,, Loud autofocus,, Work against bright light should have been better,, Average price/quality ratio.
Here we have a very fine lens indeed. It is an ideal fast standard for DSLRs, but then so is the 35mm f2.4 and that is offered at a fraction of the price. The less expensive lens is also excellent, but not quite as good as this 31mm.
I am very satisfied with these lenses.
It's very expensive for an older screw-drive lens without weather sealing, but it can sell at that price for a reason: it renders like nothing else - excellent sharpness and contrast, saturated colours and real 3D pop. It's a great street lens on a FF body (35mm film or FF digital) but it...
Satisfied thanks
Truly premium lens - etalon of Pentax limited lenses. Bokeh rendering + sharpness at low apertures gives photos special interesting look, that is unique.

Oustanding build quality, relatively small size, but feels substantial in hand. Build in metal hood. Fast AF. Aesthetics - premium design. Optics - great bokeh for wide angle. Very sharp and plenty of microcontrast. Small chromatic aberations for an old lens. F1.8 aperture. 58mm filter thread.

Only cons I can think of: not weather sealed build in hood prevents mounting filter holders for lee or cokin.....although this is easily corrected by adding some extender rings
As always service from SRS excellent. Not had much time to play with this lens yet, but if it lives up to its reviews I'll be happy
Not a lens to be judged purely on benchmarks, it needs to be judged on the image you receive. Price wise, can be expensive but don't forget you are buying a lens aristocrat :-) I got mine 2nd hand and it equated to €675 which to me is a bargain for what it delivers.

Build quality is superb. Image quality is draw dropping, its difficult to describe until you use it to take an image yourself, images just seem more alive, could be micro contrast or the vividness of light transmission but it is doing something special.

Its front heavy and large compared to its peers the 43 and 77
Highly recommended Note: my sample was made in Japan

My standard normal lens on the K20D. My standard wide-angle on the LX. Near to perfect image quality. However, when size and weight matter, I sometimes replace it with the A28/2.
