The Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX8 offers a quick burst rate, in-body stabilization, and 4K video recording, making it a strong contender in the premium mirrorless camera space.

  • +

Quick autofocus. 8.3fps burst shooting. Large shooting buffer. 4-axis in-body stabilization. Tilting EVF. Vari-angle touch display. Strong high ISO performance. Wi-Fi with NFC. 4K video capture. Weather-sealed body.

  • -

No flash included. 4K video is cropped. Non-standard microphone input.

14 March 2016

Finally, a word about video: The GX8 could be the best micro four thirds camera out there right now for video—at least in terms of image quality. Two things keep it from besting Panasonic’s video superstar, the GH4.

  • +

The new 20-megapixel sensor offers 4K video support and improved dynamic range over the GX7, the previous model. Solid, well-constructed body is comfortable to shoot with. Dual image stabilization system, fast autofocus, and improved high ISO performance make this camera's low light capabilities...

  • -

Loses the lightweight, highly-portable advantage that makes micro four thirds so appealing. Image quality gains aren't as large as the jump in sensor resolution would lead one to assume. The dual IS feature requires a compatible Panasonic lens.

  • +

Large, detailed viewfinder and fully-articulated touchscreen., Weather-proof body with decent grip and good controls., Fast Single AF that works well in low light conditions., 4k video with chance to extract 8MP stills at 30fps., Wifi, timelapse, 7-frame AEB, silent shooting up to 1/16000.

  • -

Built-in IS less effective than Olympus system., Continuous AF performance beaten by some rivals., No USB-charging of battery in-camera.

The 20.3-megapixel Panasonic Lumix DMC-GX8 is the follow-up to the GX7, which was the top model of the viewfinder style G series mirrorless cameras. Like the GX7, the Panasonic GX8 looks like a classic rangefinder camera, but has a tiltable electronic viewfinder that uses a high resolution OLED...

The Panasonic Lumix-DMC GX8 is a hugely appealing mirrorless camera. Combining enthusiast-friendly ergonomics, an innovative tilting viewfinder and a solid feature set in both stills and video modes, the GX8 is a great all-rounder.

With its new 20-megapixel sensor, impressive AF performance, high quality 4K video, as well as excellent, robust wireless connectivity, the Panasonic GX8 wears a lot of hats, so to speak. It's perfectly situated for travel and street photography, capturing lots of fast action and high quality video.

  • +

Highest resolution Micro Four Thirds camera yet; Great high ISO performance; Very fast autofocus; Fast burst mode with deep buffers; Impressive Dual I.S. system; Great 4K video.

  • -

No built-in flash; Slow buffer clearing; Below average battery life; Limited I.S. for 4K video.

Panasonic truly impressed us when they introduced their GX7 and the new GX8 takes it even further with a weatherproof body and improved stabilization that combines both sensor-shift and optical stabilization to maximize efficiency.

Panasonic has a range of cameras for most people's use cases. I've read many reviews where people will complain that a camera does this function but not that one, but the point of different modes is that they cater for different needs. If you need an all-purpose camera, go with the GH4.

10 July 2017

Great build quality. But i returned and was disappointed for two main reasons. Images were soft, even after firmware updates, tried different lens, turned down the inbody image noise reduction and sharpness etc. No setting was able to produce sharp looking images.

I got my GX8 a year or so before getting my G85. I find they complement each other very well. The control layouts are relatively similar, except for the awkward Fn button on the front of the GX8, which I find really hard to access by feel, and the exposure comp dial isn't as easy to use as the front...

Purchased the GX8 a few months ago. It’s a type of camera that can do just about everything from taking stills to 4K video. I think it looks good and is a stylish camera for street photography. Its size and style does not warrant much attention, which is a good thing.

I like this camera and am pleased with the quality of the camera and component lenses. Lighter and smaller than full frame, but with plenty large file size for my use. I really like both the pivoting view finder and LCD Screen, both are useful for shooting at odd angles.

I am an amateur photographer. I purchased this camera for use with the Panasonic 100-400 mm lens for nature photography. I am writing this review after only owning the camera for two weeks. I have got to say that right out of the box, this camera - lens system performs better then I even expected.

Ordered the LUMIX GX8 to have a smaller, changeable lens camera to travel with. I may never pick up my larger dslr again.

I have been shooting Canon DSLR for years. This is my first attempt at at mirrorless. This camera is fun and fantastic to shoot. The form factor is wonderful. Much smaller and easier to carry but very rugged and feels like a little brick in your hand. The EVF is amazing.

Great for holidays. Easy to use and store. Just as described!! Good, its good quality surprised me. a company that stands by its product Seem to be good quality too. they work perfectly. Will buy it again. I'm so happy with it.

27 June 2017

I like this camera a lot. I bought it to replace my old Olympus DSLR as it can accept the old lenses through an adaptor (sold separately). Compared to the Olympus (at least 5 years old) this camera has really good image quality, especially at the higher ISOs, as it has a much higher sensitivity...
