The Lumix G7 is a very capable mid-range camera that should be considered by anyone wanting a step-up from budget models, whether DSLR or mirrorless. It has well thought-out controls, a large and detailed electronic viewfinder and the flexibility of a fully-articulated touch-screen.

  • +

Good image quality and compact but decent kit zoom., Large, detailed viewfinder and fully-articulated touchscreen., Fast AF that works in low light, and 6-8fps burst shooting., 4k video with chance to extract 8MP stills at 30fps., Wifi, timelapse, 7-frame AEB, silent shooting up to 1/16000.

  • -

Continuous AF good but not best in class., Lacks built-in stabilization of Olympus bodies., No USB in-body charging of battery., Maximum Bulb length of 2 minutes. Limits long exposure work.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-G7's excellent 4K capture will appeal to you if video is a priority, but its plastic body may be a turnoff.

  • +

4K video. Built-in EVF. Vari-angle touch LCD. Dual control dials. Speedy performance. 4K Photo and Post Focus modes. Built-in flash.

  • -

Tracking focus slows burst rate. Not available as a body only. Plastic build.

A great mirrorless interchangeable-lens camera for families and travelers, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-G7 is a compelling alternative to similarly priced dSLRs.

  • +

For the money, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-G7 delivers great photo and video, excellent performance and a broad feature set.

  • -

It's another in a long line of Panasonic cameras with proprietary USB connectors and some people might find it too complicated.

The Panasonic G7 is an impressive all-rounder, combining solid image quality, impressive autofocus performance and 4K (UHD) capability into a compact body with extensive external controls.

  • +

Solid image quality in both Raw and JPEG, 4K (UHD) video, Built-in Wi-Fi with comprehensive set of features, 4K Photo mode with clever pre-burst option for grabbing stills from video, In-camera Raw conversion for post-shot re-processing, Super-fast focus for single AF acquisitions, Impressive...

  • -

Mechanical shutter causes some softness at around 1/100th exposures, Number of external controls make the camera seem more complex than it is, Dated Q.Menu is over-complex, Touchscreen control tabs leave the screen a bit cluttered (though they can be disabled), Wi-Fi can be overwhelming and...

With the Panasonic G7, the company offers up a whole lot of camera at a really great price. Ostensibly a camera aimed at the family documentarian, the Lumix G7 is also a whole lot more than just a family camera, with great features like super-swift autofocus, a really great viewfinder and...

  • +

Compact and lightweight for a fully-featured interchangeable-lens camera; Really fast autofocus; Good all-around performance too; Generous buffer depth; Versatile tilt/swivel LCD and high-res viewfinder; Touch-screen controls; Very affordable pricetag

  • -

Out of the box, colors are muted by consumer standards; Warm white balance under incandescent light; Handgrip is a little shallow for those with larger hands; Wi-Fi is overly complex and has limited range

The Panasonic Lumix G7 is built around a 16 megapixels Four-Thirds CMOS sensor paired with a fast and powerful processor which lets it record 4K Ultra-HD video at 30 FPS or 1080p HD at 60 FPS.

  • +

Very low image noise, Superb detail retention, Nice image colors after tweaking, Instant shutter-lag with short blackout, Speedy autofocus, Extremely sensitive AF, Fast shot-to-shot speed, Large and sharp EVF, Calibratable LCD, Highly customizable

  • -

Frequent overexposure, Limited dynamic-range, Yellow color-cast in low light, Exposure-Priority only in Manual mode, Wrong Live-Histogram, Flex in LCD hinge, Pause after filming, Very slow to power-off

No other camera maker has been as aggressive in adopting 4K technology as Panasonic. While U.S. consumers slowly upgrade their televisions and TV broadcasters gradually add 4K programming, Panasonic is hurriedly packing 4K into nearly every advanced camera rolling out of its factories.

  • +

Great still and video quality; solid handling; free-angle display; great feature set; excellent value.

  • -

No USB 3.0; menu system occasionally confusing; slow eye sensor.

This is one of the best cameras in its price range for 4K video. Using CineD, you gain a few extra stops of dynamic range, and the wealth of professional controls and features are very handy. You can hook up an external power supply using a battery-type adapter. It takes all the m4/3 lenses.

A bigger sensor than 16mp would have been a great improvement, but being the GH4 a 16mp I guess that this is enough....

  • +

Function buttons like in a pro camera. 4K amazing video. Great display and viewfinder. Light and practical. Great low light capacity for the size of the sensor...Too many pros to mention... it's the little brother of the GH4...

Great little camera for anyone, the price is really good for what you get, the only thing preventing me from giving this camera 5 stars is the fact that 14mm on a micro four thirds sensor in 4k is not really that wide, so keep in mind that you might need another lens if you want to create landscape...
