The Olympus TOUGH TG-6 is a modest update to the earlier TG-5, with a higher resolution 1040k dot screen and new anti-glare glass in front of the sensor. The quality of underwater photos and video have been improved by the addition of three new white balance modes for differing water depths and the...
While the TG-6 packs some fun new features, they may not warrant an upgrade if you already own the TG-5. However, if you have an older Tough or you're looking for a camera that can go in the sea, get covered in sand, be dropped onto concrete, and still take pictures and video even in freezing...
Takes a licking, keeps on ticking, 4K and high-speed video, Brilliant Microscope mode
… but a piece did break off!, Only 12MP image resolution, No fully manual control
It been a while since I have reviewed a camera that can fit in your pocket, of course most recent SmartPhones have better than average cameras but I do not know any that can shoot underwater as this latest offering from Olympus can.
Even though it’s an entry-level camera, meant for casual shooting, the TOUGH TG-6 does not compromise on image quality. A fast F2.0 lens means better low-light capability. A prism-folded design gives 25-100 mm (equiv.) 4x optical zoom.
Is Olympus' latest waterproof camera still the best choice for adventure holidays?
Good photo quality in most situations, Shoots in the Raw format, Handy macro modes, Bright f/2.0 lens, Sturdy construction
Slightly fiddly buttons, Quite pricey, Limited manual controls
A very feature-rich and well-made camera. I bought it for underwater photography and it seems to hit all the targets and then some. One of the best things about it are that most features are soft-set and can be accessed from any mode- for example, you don't have to be in movie mode to take a movie,...
I love the point and shoot waterproof camera’s to bring to the beach for sand and water photos of family. Places I would never bring the iPhone or DSLR. Based on Consumer Reports, I hope for a longer life than all my past choices over the years (Canon D10, a Sony model, and the Nikon AW130).
Loving this camera so far! I just started taking this out on my dives and first use was on a shallow reef dive. I got nice bright vibrant colors with this camera and can’t wait to take some macro shots with it as others rave about the great shots you can take in macro on it.
I have only had the camera a couple of days now but so far I am impressed. The macro capabilities are outstanding. I am just tired of carrying my 8 lb DSLR to all the places I visit so thought I would try this one. The spec above says it is 2.2 oz but of course that is wrong.
Love this camera! The macro feature is outstanding. The colors and sharpness of macro photos are better and easier to achieve than on my macro lenses and other cameras. I haven’t used it underwater yet but the macro features is worth the price of this camera!!
I did a TON of research on this little cutie of a camera. I was very, very, terrified to put it into the water the first time. I literally felt like I was holding a $500 bill (do those exist?) and waving it into hurricane winds, just hoping it would not blow away. Eek!
I have brought this camera jet skiing, paddle boarding, kayaking, snorkeling and to the beach and pool. It seems to handle every condition flawlessly.
I normally shoot with a DSLR or mirrorless camera, but I was going on a trip and didn’t have room to carry camera gear. I also wanted something very sturdy, because I was traveling with small children, and knew I wouldn’t be able to “baby” camera gear.
Yes, it’s waterproof. However, image quality leaves something to be desired. I had better underwater photos with my iPhone. This is a fairly rugged camera and seals well. Easy to operate in and out of water. I returned but it may meet your needs.
As described. Will do business again! Really sturdy & waterproof. Use every weekend on kayaking trips
