This is a flagship camera for Olympus and is often sold body only. I was sent the unit with a 12-40mm lens. It arrived at a time when I had several events at iconic place, the OXO tower, the Shard and perhaps the most poignant the 100 years from the end of the First World War at the Imperial War...

We’d want to do more extensive tests before reaching any final decision about the E-M1’s continuous focus tracking performance, but it’s an extraordinary camera in every other respect. The image quality belies its small sensor, and its static autofocus and burst shooting modes are exceptional.

  • +

60fps at full resolution – amazing!, Great range of pro-quality lenses, Superb image stabilisation

  • -

MFT sensor smaller than rivals, Complex menu and control system, Speed drops to 18fps with focus tracking

So am I getting rid of my Nikon system after shooting with the Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II? Not yet, but for adventures where weight is a major issue and I don’t plan to be shooting lots of fast-moving action, the new Olympus is an amazing camera and for many users could entirely replace their DSLR.

Allow me to begin this article with a personal note. Three years ago, Heather and I attended our first press event in Ireland for the launch of the original E-M1. I remember the excitement we felt being there amongst some of the most important journalists, photographers and bloggers; the curiosity...

Silent Shutter Mode completely eliminates shutter noise and all electronic sounds, perfect for wildlife, concert halls, or other quiet environments. With the Live Composite and Live Bulb Modes, you’ll shoot beautiful nighttime compositions as you watch the image build up on the monitor, giving you...

We first saw it five months ago at Photokina, had the chance to put it through its paces during a dedicated press event in Spain, pitched it against other mirrorless cameras on our comparison website (including its predecessor, the E-M1) and now we’ve finally published our complete review of the...

Ultimately, the Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II is currently the best Micro Four Thirds camera for advanced photographers. That, in a nutshell, is why it's well worth its asking price.

  • +

Very fast, Quick autofocus, Articulated touchscreen, Image stabilisation is unreal, Mechanical and electronic shutter shooting modes, Can be customised to the nth degree, Ever expanding lens choice, Sharp images at low to mid ISO settings

  • -

Image quality in low contrast light, Limited dynamic range in high contrast light, Silent shutter is so discreet that it’s easy to forget what shooting mode you’re in, It's an expensive purchase

Placing advanced enthusiasts and professional shooters firmly in its sights, the OM-D E-M1 Mark II is a total overhaul of Olympus’ outgoing flagship, the E-M1 . With a launch price that’s almost 50% more than its forebear, it’s clear that it is seen by the brand as more than just another...

Outstanding camera and lens combination, I moved from Nikon just to save weight but now I wished I had done it sooner. Changing has not improved the composition of the photos! but sure has brought back the enjoyment of photography, the camera has some outstanding features and image quality is superb...

Amazing camera. Highly recommended.

"Wow, what can I say. I owned an EM1, outstanding camera, upgraded to the MKII back in early March (2017). Solid build, back to an articulated lcd, burst mode is almost overwhelming. Silent mode is truly silent and easy to find in comparison to the MK1.Still need to try Hires and tracking.
