The Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 40-150mm f4.0-5.6 R is a solid budget option for Micro Four Thirds shooters looking for an affordable telephoto zoom lens.

  • +

Inexpensive. Good telephoto zoom range. Sharp through most of its zoom range.

  • -

Plastic lens mount. Performance suffers at the edges of the frame. Not optically stabilized. Modest aperture.

This telephoto zoom for Four Thirds system compatible cameras is available from around £210 and sports a fast, silent focusing motor.

This lens is a phenomenal lens to buy as your first after the kit lens. It provides excellent telephoto reach and is quick to focus and produces sharp and pleasing photos. The build quality and slow aperture are the only real downsides but at this price you can't for more than what you get.

  • +

Compact, Fast autofocus, Lightweight, Little Optical Issues, Nice Bokeh, Sharp

Half Decent Build Quality, Poor in Low Light

Recently purchased an OM-D E-M5 for my wife to use as second-shooter. I have the pro glass for E-M1. Purchased this to give her a lightweight tele and was blown away by its performance, compactness and totally silent AF. Often steal it for use when doing sunlit sports video footage now...

  • +

Fantastic Value Lens, Fast / accurate auto-focus, Good contrast, Lightweight, Silent AF, Tack-sharp, Very Compact For 80-300

  • -

No lens hood supplied, Plastic Lens Mount

I haven't had many opportunities to use this lens yet. When I have used it I have been very happy with the image quality and the weight of the lens.

Underrated lens. I dropped and broke the lens (came as kit lens with E-PL3) in volunteer work for outdoor event. The lens and E-PL3 was too light and didn’t realize I had my camera wrapped around my wrist. It fell off on concrete pavement while I were taking off my jacket!

Besides the cons above, it is still a good light camera that can be used for both still images and HD videos. adding a lens COST a LOT !

  • +

    - light weight - takes good quality images - takes good HD videos - it has lots of features and interchangeable lens. - nicely built and good looking - good battery life I took lots of still images and took several HD videos and the still images are VERY NICE and VERY CLEAR.

  • -

    - auto-focus is not that good - need additional lens like 150mm (for zooming) - it doesn't have a grip on the front side like other cameras.

I purchased my lens from the suggested sellers under used product. There was not an option to ask questions so I took a chance for the great price. Nothing but regret. I got an entirely different lens than the one pictured under NEW.

Provides good reach for distant objects. Clear images with no chromatic distortion. Not great for photos of the moon or small objects at great distances. For shooting at great distances, I recommend spending the extra money and getting an 80-300mm lens from the same manufacturer.
