Nikon has entered and exited the mirrorless market before with the largely underwhelming 1-series — but with the Z-series, it looks like Nikon is here to stay. The Z7 proves that Nikon is ready to make mirrorless a priority, with features like 5-axis stabilization, an upgraded processor, and pro...

  • +

Excellent image quality, Sharp, accurate EVF, 5-axis in-body image stabilization, 4K video with pro features, Unhindered performance with Nikon F lenses

  • -

Limited 3D tracking, Less effective low light AF compared to D850, Fewer physical controls

The Z 7 is the best full-frame mirrorless camera for photographers invested in the Nikon system, but some quirks prevent it from attaining class-leading status.

  • +

45.7MP full-frame image sensor. 90 percent autofocus coverage. 9fps continuous drive. In-body stabilization. Tilting touch LCD. Superb EVF. Works with Nikon SLR lenses and accessories. 4K video. Weather sealing. Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.

  • -

Autofocus could be better. Lens control ring system is too sensitive. Limited native lens selection at launch. Single memory card slot. Omits PC sync socket.

The Nikon Z7 is an extremely well-rounded digital camera and suitable for a wide range of photographic and video needs. It packs outstanding image quality and very good 4K video in a lightweight, well-built package with in-body image stabilization.

  • +

Hybrid stills and video shooters, photographers looking for a versatile tool for a wide range of subjects in a compact package.

Nikon has made a solid debut of its all-new full-frame mirrorless Z-Mount system with the Z7. It handles full-frame 4K video surprisingly well, with high-quality 10-bit external output and no cropping, plus 120 fps 1080p.

  • +

Great 10-bit full-frame 4K video, In-body stabilization, Wide choice of lenses with adapter, Good ergonomics, Excellent image quality

  • -

Mediocre autofocus subject tracking, Single card slot uses non-standard XQD format, Touchscreen display doesn’t flip around

The Nikon Z7 is an admirable first generation product that blends a century of technological advancements with a system looking at photography's next hundred years. Unless you need dual card slots or shoot action, the Z7 is a terrific hybrid option for those who want to make video content and...

  • +

Medium Format-esque resolution, The best Nikon video camera ever, In-body Vibration Reduction, Hybrid AF system, Beautiful Colors, Lots of dynamic range, Excellent NIKKOR F-Mount compatibility, Improved wireless functionality

  • -

Pricey compared to the competition, Lacks dual memory card slots, Not quite as ergonomic as the D850, Not for shooting sports, wildlife, or fast action, No flip-forward screen, Nikon DSLR AutoFocus (D850, D500) is a bit quicker for still photos, No 4K/60p or internal 10-bit 4:2:2 video recording

As stated at the beginning of this review, the Nikon Z7 and its stablemate the Z6 are two of the best designed full frame mirrorless cameras on the market right now. If you’re moving to mirrorless from a DSLR, the Z7/Z6 is the most comfortable camera to get started with, particularly if you’re...

The Nikon Z7 is a high-end full-frame mirrorless camera that jointly launches the Z-system alongside its more affordable, faster but lower resolution sibling, the Z6. The Z7 gives you 45 Megapixels, phase-detect AF across most of the frame, built-in stabilisation, 4k video up to 30p, 9fps bursts and...

The Nikon Z7 is a worthy contender in the Full-Frame Mirrorless market. It is remarkably polished for a first camera in a completely new platform. This mirrorless takes a 46 MP BSI-CMOS senor paired with an EXCEED 6 processor to deliver a high throughput with 9 FPS at full-resolution.

Excellent detail capture, Very low image noise, Excellent metering, Effecive 5-Axis Image Stabilization, Good colors accuracy, Reliable Automatic White-Balance, Highly sensitive AF, Quick 493-Point AF, Very responsive, Ultra-Sharp EVF, Natural EVF contrast, Solid build quality

  • -

Shallow Buffer-Depth, Poor EC button location, Poor Continuous AF, Artifacts from built-in Phase-Detect pixels, Not Exposure-Priority, Occasionally incorrect WB preview, Bizarre Auto ISO, Very short battey-life, Pricey

The Z6 and Z7 are Nikon’s first attempts at a full-frame mirrorless camera system. Although it took Nikon many years to finally come out with its own mirrorless system, it was definitely worth the wait for many Nikon photographers.

I have been shooting Nikon Products in excess of 30 years. My main uses are Family, Friends and pets, travel, Landscape, wildlife. I usually do not use the vidio function however I have decided to start. I am really quite pleased with my Z 7. It is so much lighter and smaller than the miror cameras.

I did all the reading up on the Nikon Z7 and watched as many online videos as I could before sinking serious money into an untried new camera. Most of what I read and saw was from professional reviewers who had not actually had the real finished camera in their hands, and they seemed to come from a...

Early days, but my first impressions are extremely positive. Handling, ergonomics are excellent. Image quality good. FTZ worked well with 105mm f1.4. Love addition of three user settings that handle both still and video. I have yet to do a tough test with autofocus, whose issues are well documented.

Awesome camera !! The images you get out of these camera are really pro-grade. The COLORS are so much better !! The auto-focus works perfectly with the lenses I have. 24-70 f4 S, 50mm f1.8, 35mm f1.8. Snapbrige mobile app works seamlessly. The camera overall is very well made.

So far, I'm very pleased with the performance of the new Z7. I absolutely love the the in-body-image stabilization that even works well with non-VR lenses. Regrettably, I did not purchase it with the 24-70mm f/4 S-lens. I purchased it only with the FTZ adapter because I have so many F-mount lenses.

After having used a D200 and then a D800, I hesitated for a long time about buying a D850, to the point I had it in my hands in a merchant in Orchard St in Singapore. I hesitated enough to let it go and when the Z7 appeared I thought the time was ripe to get into mirrorless.

First of all I am a 71 year old amateur photographer that loves to take pictures of my grandkids and the places that we travel as we go all over the North America continent as President of Family Motor Coach Association (world's largest non profit RV Association). My old camera was a Nikon D700.
