The Z50 is a capable and comfortable camera to use, for a wide range of photography. The autofocus system is a little more awkward than it needs to be, but generally it's a hugely competitive camera. If the lenses you want to use exist, it should be on your list of cameras to consider.

    Travel and everyday photography.

Landscapes and high resolution imagery. Team sports.

The Nikon Z 50 is a good mirrorless camera with a lot of appeal to photographers already invested in the system, but isn't quite as capable as its rivals.

  • +

Light and compact., Big, crisp EVF., Speedy response., 11fps continuous drive., Strong 4K video quality., Built-in flash., Compatible with Nikon SLR lenses via adapter.

  • -

Few native lenses., Subject tracking not as good as competitors., Touch features could be more robust., Lowest resolution in class., Selfie screen design is a little awkward.

“The Z 50 lets you trim video in-camera and share it wirelessly to your phone, making it perfect for the influencer on the go.”

The new Nikon Z50 mirrorless camera is the smallest interchangeable-lens DX-format camera Nikon offers, and as you can probably tell, I liked it a lot. It’s small and rugged with surprisingly high build quality for the price, and its thin, sleek design is very attractive.

Nikon shows why not everyone needs a professional camera with the successful Nikon Z50.

  • +

Very good picture and video quality (4K), complete ergonomics, compact and light, fast autofocus and good shooting pace.

  • -

Lacks image stabilizer, imprecise tracking focus, multiple touch focus, moderate brightness on the kit zoom.

The Nikon Z6 and Z7 are great, but not all photographers want a full-frame camera. Now there’s an alternative for Nikon users wanting a mirrorless camera, the Nikon Z50. It has plenty to offer experienced photographers, with a solid build and a comprehensive feature set.

The Z50 is reasonably priced and doesn’t disappoint. We were super impressed by the autofocus system; it performed very well. We would have liked it to have more dynamic range, but for the price it is acceptable. Its low light performance is fine, though a bit below most mirrorless cameras.

I'll skip the emotional nonsense and just do a Pro/Con to cut to the chase...all my opinion, with lots of experience with Nikon: Pros (1) Ultra light and small, with lens attached it still easily fits in my wife's purse :) (2) Super easy to understand and use, turn it on and go!

I’ve been a long time Nikon shooter and really enjoy the features and ergonomics of the Z series bodies. The lenses that come with this kit are very nice quality. If you’re familiar with Nikons menus, then this camera is a breeze to use. It’s also nice to have the built in flash just in case.

My first camera was a college graduation present 4 decades ago, an Olympus OM-1. I used that camera until the early 2000s when film became pretty hard to find. Then I had a period of time with point and shoot digitals including Nikon CoolPix, then iPhone, but they were definitely lacking.

Compact and light weight compared to my older Nikon D7000 SLR. Z50 has great ergonomics compared to other brands. Easy to hold and handle. This is a easy camera to carry around. Sometimes referred to as a beginner or intermediate level camera.

An excellent camera to enter Nikon's mirrorless system. The photos are crisp and vivid. The camera is lightweight and can be easily handled with one hand.

Needed something small and compact. Takes great photos especially paired with the 50-250 lens. Happy with purchase!;"#sweepstakes

I couldn't be happier with this camera. It delights me more each time I use it. I can't believe how sharp night time, handheld, 1/5th second pictures are. WOW. Autofocus seems to work great, picture quality is amazing. I'll write more as I use it.

This is my first mirrorless camera, and I've waited a couple of months before posting this review to get a better impression of it.

In short - I love it! It's small enough with the kit lens to carry around for street photography, and performance indoors is outstanding.

I've spent the past two weeks shooting exclusively with the Z50. I shoot a few thousand pictures over the holidays every year in a variety of challenging conditions, so it's the best time for me to put it through its paces for both formal and informal shooting with great and horrible lighting.

I've had my Z50 for over a year and almost 30,000 shots. I've had no issues with the hardware. Image quality is incredible. The autofocus is more than good enough for most situations. For portraits, landscapes or kids playing it will be near perfect.
