In its price range, you really can't do better than the Nikon Monarch 5 8x42. These bins manage to provide high-end optical quality and impressive brightness whilst shielding themselves from the astronomical prices you can easily run into when shopping for a quality set of optics.

Good clarity and brightness, smooth focus knob

Mediocre close focus range, mediocre field of view

Very clear, bright and sharp image. I had mine since 2016 and every time, I take them out to the field, I don't have any issues with them. Only thing I wished Nikon did on the monarch binos is to have tripod mounting adaptor system where you can mount them on tripods and I'm not talking about the...

I did a lot of research before buying these. I primarily use them for birding photography but they come in quite handy for all kinds of events. They are incredibly clear...sharp as a tack...work wonderful in low light...absolutely fantastic pair of binoculars!

These binoculars have exceeded my expectations on clarity and functionality. They are light, easy to adjust and did I already mention the clarity...even at extreme distances is incredible! Comes with a nice case that is soft but substantial in the padding and both front and rear glass covers.

So far so good. Clarity is exceptional. Only issue - eyecup covers are way too loose to be of any protection. I would rather have tight fitting covers than easy off. Otherwise, like them. Can't wait to use them on the lake to check out the various duck and bird species.

eye cup protection covers, too loose to be of use.

The image is much sharper than my previous binocular, relatively light weight. Looks and feels solid. Very satisfied.

I spend many hours in the field each year and while I try to take care of my equipment, I have no time to baby it. I have put these Binos through the mill from out in the Rockies of Colorado atv-ing miles in the dust to sitting in the rain in northern MO, these have never let me down.

I bought these a few months ago after having purchased the same model from rei in an 8x. I was concerned about the couple reviews that mention a 10x can be hard to hold still. it wasn't a factor and I am now glad I made the upgrade.

I think these binoculars are built solid and the optics are first rate. The only issues I have with them is that the Diopter Ring is very difficult to operate. The eye cup covers are loosely fitted and dont stay on. These are things that Nikon should fix.

I have not really used it yet, but it looks and feels good so far. I am taking it on a safari with me this summer. I like the fact that it is not too big or too heavy. The one I have is a 12x42 which is supposed to be more powerful than the 8x42 which my husband has and likes very much.
