With a modest speed boost and a new color choice, the Microsoft Surface Pro 6 may not have changed much from the previous iteration, but what we loved about this 2-in-1 convertible then, we still love now.
-
+
Speedy new 8th Generation Intel processor. Good battery life. Premium feel. Sleek all-black color option. Brilliant display. Well-implemented kickstand.
-
-
Minimal changes from previous model. As ever, keyboard sold separately. Not ideal for in-lap use. Somewhat restrictive configuration combinations. Limited ports.
The Surface Pro 6 is still the best 2-in-1 you can buy. It’s supremely built, powerful as a full laptop, and looks killer in all-black. Microsoft even remedied one of our biggest complaints in years past by upping the battery life.
-
+
Bright, beautiful, 3:2 display, Black color looks and feels great, World-class build quality, Improved multitasking performance, Excellent battery life
-
-
Didn’t update to Whiskey Lake processor, Outdated ports, Windows 10 tablet mode still needs work
The latest Surface Pro tablet doesn't make any radical design changes, but the performance jump makes it viable as a mainstream performance laptop replacement.
-
+
The Surface Pro 6's jump to new quad-core processors pays off in big performance gains. The new black color option looks cool. Still the best kickstand and keyboard for Windows tablets.
-
-
Be ready to shell out extra for the keyboard cover, stylus and even for the new matte black design. CPU and color aside, it's a very minimal upgrade over the previous version.
New tricks in an old design? The Surface Pro 6 looks the same as its predecessors save for its new black colour option. The device is a slim, high-quality and robust tablet case that is easy to hold and weighs a comparatively svelte 786 g (~1.7 lb).
-
+
laptop-like performance, fan noise is quiet under load, full working day’s battery life, impressive input devices for a convertible, well-built, contemporary design, good cameras, Windows Hello support, decent microphone, bright display, high sRGB colour space coverage, recharged fully in two hours
-
-
no USB Type-C, Signature Type Cover (2017) remains an additional purchase, as does the Surface Pen (2017), expensive
The Microsoft Surface Pro 6 is still the best detachable 2-in-1 around with a beautiful display and solid battery life, but its port selection is stuck in the past and its storage should be faster.
-
+
Vivid display, Solid battery life, Black color looks sleek
-
-
No Thunderbolt 3 or USB Type-C, Storage is slower than competitors, Type Cover costs extra
The Surface Pro 6 isn't for everyone. It's for people who will truly benefit from having a detachable 2-in-1 that's light enough to carry anywhere and flexible enough to use as a tablet or laptop.
The Surface Pro is entering its sixth year in existence, so it seems relevant for a "Surface Pro 6 model" to match. While the older numbering system for the name has returned, the hardware remains mostly the same as 2017's Surface Pro, now dubbed the Surface Pro "fifth gen" by Microsoft.
-
+
New CPU is substantially more powerful., Improved battery life; runs cooler., Black is awesome., Excellent build quality and design.
-
-
No Type-C or Thunderbolt 3., No LTE option (yet)., Odd pricing levels.
Microsoft's Surface Pro 6 is easily the best 2-in-1 computer of the year, with best-in-class performance at a great value.
-
+
Comes in matte black option! , Quad-core performance , Entry-level model doesn't stink anymore
-
-
No USB-C port(s)
Surface Pro is still the 2-in-1 to beat
-
+
Quad-core performance inside a lightweight tablet, Mostly silent operation, Matte black finish
-
-
Still no USB-C ports, Dated design, Lapability still not ideal
At the launch event in NYC on October 2nd, the Surface Pro 6 seemed like a mild refresh of an already established line, and that’s not even necessarily a bad thing. The exterior is more or less identical to the outgoing 2017 model, albeit with a new color option to sit beside the platinum that we’ve...
I bought this to just be a mini workstation for on the go. I didnt buy the keyboard cover or surface pen. I set the tool bar up so that I can bring up the on-screen keyboard whenever I want, and a virtual touchpad as well. So far its doing exactly what I want it to do.
As of today, 1.Jan.19, while reading through the 'Specifications' portion of this URL I was surprised to read the following: "Operating System Mac OS." First point, this item has a Graphic User Interface which is not its Operating System and second point, I'm pretty sure the folks at Apple have not...
I got the Surface to replace a 17" laptop with an i7 processor. The Surface is faster, battery life is unbelievable, portability unmatched, versatility is amazing and the durability is unmatched. I researched them quite a bit, eliminating the iPad Pro, Mac Air and every other laptop out there.
I needed to replace an Android tablet and iPad since both were old enough that some of the app updates would no longer run on them. I am a PC Windows guy and neither of those tablets, even new ones, were much good for anything other than running apps. I decided to try a 2 in 1.
This Surface works wonderfully as a laptop, the screen is bright, clear and a great size. What drags my rating down is it's below-average functionality as a tablet. You cannot install many apps that function on and off line (such as the Kindle app) and there are many awkward pauses as you go to zoom...
I am very happy with this tablet as I have been very disappointed with windows in general but this surface has redeemed itself. On another note, I had to pay 200.00 more than the current price. I get it that prices do flux but with only a couple weeks into my purchase, that hurt.
if your looking for something portable its perfect. coupled with the keyboard and the pen its pretty much as versatile as it gets.however using it over long stretches of time can be limiting given the small display and considerably harder to multitask comparing to slightly bigger 13.5 surface...
It is a great computer. Very fast, excellent display, not too hard to set up. As a tablet, it is a little heavier than I expected. Using the tablet to write (handwriting to text vs. the keyboard) is a bit tricky. But very easy to draw or write freehand. Just not quite as portable as I hoped.
