The first generation GS60 was infamous for its loud fans and hot temperatures. Now that the second generation GS63VR has been made available with more power efficient Kaby Lake and Pascal options, the super-thin MSI series has been a lot easier to recommend.
surprisingly lightweight considering the performance, Comfortable RGB backlit SteelSeries keyboard, no major CPU or GPU throttling issues, 2x storage bays; upgradeable RAM, accessible ports; Thunderbolt 3, 1080p and 4K UHS options
RAM and M.2 slots require additional disassembly; servicing will void manufacturer warranty, RGBW pixel array; average contrast ratio, color space, and backlight brightness, chassis not as strong as a Razer Blade Pro, unable to maintain high CPU Turbo Boost, loud fans no matter the processing load,...
In general, the MSI Stealth Pro GS63VR is a great successor to the Ghost Pro GS60. The design and build quality have both improved and the hardware inside is also a nice bundle to have in such a small package.
Portable form-factor with a powerful GPU; Great build quality; Excellent keyboard; External GPU compatibility-
poor FHD screen (BestBuy model only, the others get a better IPS panel); 4k configurations get terrible battery life; slow SD card reader speeds; difficult to upgrade SSD and RAM; runs hot under load
MSI is the master of product naming. Their gaming laptops follow a well-established nomenclature where a random collection of numbers and letters is not at all confusing and certainly easy to remember. Hence why "GS63VR 6RF" is a great name for a powerful 15-inch notebook.
Thin and light chassis without compromised cooling. Very powerful for its size: the GTX 1060 is a fantastic 1080p gaming GPU. Great keyboard and great selection of I/O.
Premium priced. Difficult to upgrade RAM and SSD. Minor design issues, including a rubbish trackpad.
MSI is one of few brands that started off being a component maker who expanded their portfolios to include more finished products such as notebooks and laptops. Throughout the years, the company has been perfecting its varied lineup of notebooks, and the GS 63VR is perhaps the culmination of its...
The end days of large-sized heavy gaming laptops seem to be drawing closer, as MSI has been busy making new designs that offer extreme portability, performance, and gaming instincts for the gamer who never wants to quit.
Gaming laptops are not that cheap, if you are a hardcore gaming user you will understand, for normal gaming users this is not the laptop you should be looking for. MSI GS63 VR 7RF is a very good buy for those who are looking for a powerful gaming device that is light weight and does come with all...
There’s an old saying: You can have performance or portability in a gaming laptop, but not both. Well, not anymore. The MSI GS63VR Stealth is the first laptop I’ve seen using Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 1060, and I’m suitably impressed.
You can finally have your portability and your performance at the same time. But it may be worth choosing the 1080p model to save money as the 1060 can't quite manage 4K gaming.
Powerful, Portable, Colourful
Mediocre audio, Can't play games at 4K
The laptop is a sight to behold. I have people with their fancy macbooks turning their heads when they see the multicolored keyboard illuminate. It definitely beats the competitors to the looks department.
- Great battery life for gaming laptop
- Loud under heavy loads
Great build quality and super light, however don't try to upgrade the memory to 32GB. It is almost impossible to do since you will need to disassemble the machine to get to the SODIMMs.
Amazing and powerful laptop. -The keyboard is very responsive. -The screen colors are vivid and you can customize it for different purposes. -The slim finish looks amazing. -It doesn't overheat as I was expecting it to.
1. Relatively lightweight
1. Cooling is not as good as my another Clevo P650
Wow, what a beast. I just unboxed this thing and my immediate thoughts are this: 1. The tech specs are fantastic for the cost and SIZE of this laptop. the bang for the bug is extraordinary. 2. Preinstalled software is preinstalled software.
I have had this laptop for about a week and it has been working really well for me. Originally i spent about $900 on a laptop without a graphics card and it couldn't play any games whatsoever. Should have expected that.
I bought this for my husband as a gift. The computer stopped working a couple of months out of warranty and we had not really used it much since my husband is mostly on his desktop. Now I have to pay another $500 for a new motherboard.
Being one of the first reviews on a product is a hefty responsibility and as such I will do my best to give you the information that I know I would want when first looking at buying a specific laptop.
This is a beautiful well made high performance machine. It doesn't heat up like my hi end Mac does when running 3d. I replaced the 2nd hard drive with an SSD hard drive, it's very easy to pop the back and do this unlike most laptops.
Looks beautiful, but crashes repeatedly. Recommend you do a clean install of the new NVIDIA driver, or games will crash constantly. However that has not yet fixed the issue.
