I had this lens for a few weeks and really enjoyed seeing what the lens could do on a Leica M9. It’s compact, it’s built to last, it has some of the best glass that you can pack into a lens barrel, it is sharp, contrasty, and delivers great all-around performance.
I don't very often use this lens but I would be very reluctant to get rid of it. I recently sold my 90mm Summicron (pre asph) and I don't miss it one bit, although it was a beautiful lens.
Durable, Ideal Portrait Lens, Nice Bokeh, Rugged, Strong Construction
I place a premium on lens quality and compactness, which are consistent with most Leica lenses. This lens is no exception. The performance is outstanding wide open, which is most obvious when you look at portraits on screen and zoom in 1:1 on the subject's eyes.
If you want to wring every pixel out of your M9 this is the way to go. This is the sharpest 35mm lens I have ever used, but it does so in a pleasing way. Simply amazing. Get this an a 35mm Summicron and you will be able to get 93% of the pictures you want.
Consistent Output, Nice Bokeh
This lens complements my 28mm Summicron. It's easier to focus than a 90mm for me on my M7. It is bitingly sharp, has stupendous bokeh and just slightly saturated colors - the way I like them. Though not technically a macro lens, it focuses to 0.7m for close-ups.
