This version also works perfectly with all LEICA M kameras, including the newest LEICA M9 digital, with the use of a simple adapter ring . Focus, metering, and everything is exactly as if it were an M lens.

It took me a while but now that I own and use this lens on an almost daily basis I have to say it may be my favorite all around lens for the M9 replacing the 35 Summicron but I also adore the 35.

The Summicron-M 50mm f/2 is an impressive lens. It shows very good resolution across the frame wide open, and excellent sharpness when stopped down to f/4 or f/5.6. Distortion is no issue at all. Vignetting is fairly pronounced wide open.

The build quality of Summicron-M 50 mm f/2.0, its small dimensions, tasteful body, combination with a small and discreet Leica M9 makes this equipment not only joyful for our senses, but also makes us want to take it in our hands and go to the city to take a few pictures.

I have been shooting this lens for over 10yrs. I treated myself to a film MP tens yrs ago, and originally wanted to get a 50mm Summilux and a 28mm Elmarit. That was my budget. I ended up getting the 50mm & 28mm Summicron instead cause their was a waiting list and also read in Leica's own literature...

A lens that is completely transparent and adds no distortion, color shifts, flare from edge to edge of the full frame.

1979's Summicron 50 has aged very well and remains a far better lens than most of us will ever want or need.

Outstanding sharpness, no distortion, exquisite build, MUCH cheaper than 50 APO or Lux.

Bokeh can be unpredictable, expensive

I had used this lens when I had a M6. I have to say while a great lens, better than any Japanese SLR lens, it did not offer the magical "Glow" I have read so much about. I have an old 40/2 Summicron for a CL that I liked better.

Excellend lens, good bokeh, sharp

A touch flat when compared to Zeiss glass,, Not legenday sharp as some claim

Wow I purchased this lens as my ultimate stop and one and only one solution. I sold my 50mm summilux and 35mm summicron to finance this baby. It arrived brand new, sealed in gray box. What a shock! There is a resistance on aperture ring between f2 and f2.8 as well as at f16.

After reading lots of reviews, I finally made the decision to purchase this lens. But what I got is defective! I had the same problem with Michael: the aperture blades buckled from f2 to f16. Actually the blades can't form a round aperture.

I would love to love this lens, which was "billed" as the perfect flawless lens, but sadly the lens I received was was defective from the start - the aperture blades buckled and would not open fully or flawless to f2.0.

Scary sharp on the M240 and on the MMonochrom 246. Normally on screen you cannot tell a truly sharp lens but this one is noticeably better than other Leica lenses, which are almost all outstanding. The combination of the MM 246 and this lens yields stunning prints with amazing detail.
