Was wonderful when it worked. Died after 5 months. Wouldn't power up. Seagate tech support - yes Lacie belongs to them now... - wanted me to go buy a power adapter to troubleshoot where the problem lies. Just incredible. And no phone support where I'm at.
I had a Lacie hard drive that I used to store pictures and videos. The drive failed so bad that nobody was able to recover the information. Now I have lost all my video edits and valued pictures. I will never buy another Lacie product.
You should know that the Disk inside the "8 TB Porsche Design Desktop Drive" is a cheap Seagate "Barracuda Compute." (entry level drive...) So, it is NOT the IronWolf Pro or the Archive NAS drive that someone else mentioned before...
2 units came yesterday, and I was not able to format either of them...however I tried. Contacted LaCie and got this answer: "We do understand that you have tried to troubleshoot the issue with no success as it prompts "Disk Part has encountered an error: The parameter is incorrect.
great product, so quiet, perfect for what I wanted
Really would give this about a 2 1/2 star rating. It can be buggy. Have experienced some problems with it that I haven't with other brands. This is my first 8 TB however, and perhaps these are not as ready for prime time (?).
The HDD works well, it's quite fast and looks sleek. The power adapter started making a hissing noise few months after the purchase. It's been working fine for the past couple of years, but the noise is annoying.
Three months into the use of this backup drive and working well. No issues.
I never had an HD crash so much, it's unbearable, it randomly disconnects sometimes after a few minutes sometimes after 1h. Terrible!
can't read/write some of the file were on my Seagate drive.....disappointment.
