more space! - working well - had 2 of the 8GB Too Big - the early version was a tad loud - this is quiet and does the job. I have had for several months now and working well.
This hard drive has been a great solution to our need for huge storage capacity. I've got two that are cloning each night with Carbon Copy Cloner. They're daisy chained via Thunderbolt from two other G-Tech drives.
As with the other 4 Lacie units I have, this is beautifully made. It was not difficult to install, and the only downside proved to be the Lacie RAID manager software. As soon as this was installed my iMac started misbehaving, and spontaneously shutting down.
So, contrary to some of the reviews on here, I’ve had a very positive experience owning this drive. Not just for 2 months... rather 4 years, and also not just 1 drive but 4! About to place my fifth order for our company because you can’t get a better price on Raided 5 drives and Lacie’s customer...
enough storage space for 2 AAA games these days.
This drive worked flawlessly until two months after it's three year warranty was up...then the motherboard crashed. Look elsewhere.
WARNING: They use proprietary technology that when you have a failed drive, and you will, you can only use compatible drives. I just had two drives fail within two weeks of each other just after the warranty expired.
For free I will not own this brand ,, should restart it every time I use it
I have this now for 3 years and have had no issues. I got it as a new driverless unit and I put in my own drives in it. the performance is great I have the two lan ports teamed/bonded and have 2 ports on my switch teamed no problems streaming video or audio or with backups.
I use Final Cut Pro a lot for my job and we use a 20TB version of the LaCie 5big as a cache/production drive for temporary storage and for working from. When I hooked the 10TB 5Big up to my Mac Pro, the drive didn't show, so you quickly head to the LaCie website and install their Raid Manager...
