“Google's Nest Mini makes an already good device even better and remains the go-to pick among affordable smart speakers.”
Google's tiny speaker makes improvements where it counts
On-device controls, Good sound, Easy mounting option
No audio jack, Hover feature doesn't work, Dangling wire a major design flaw
The added microphone helps the Nest Mini better hear you.
The improved bass performance sounds a little muddy.
The Google Nest Mini is a future-proofing update rather than a radical change. Sure, it sounds a little better, the controls are improved and the wall-mount is nice. But it is the improved machine learning chip within it that is the real upgrade – and one that is likely to be of larger benefit as we...
Pros: good sound for the money, wall mount, made of recycled plastic, Google Assistant, Bluetooth 5.0, native BBC radio playback
Cons: No 3.5mm input, privacy concerns of a smart speaker, not quite room-filling sound
With improved sound, touch controls and a wall mount, the Google Nest Mini is louder and cleverer than ever and will only improve over time
Great price, Improved speakers and mics, Wall mount is handy, Google Assistant is always learning, Voice Match allows for personalised answers
Better Google Home only £40 more, Not loud enough for music at a party, Machine learning is US-only for now
The changes are all good, and it is a worthy successor to the Home Mini. It still is a long way from being a music speaker, BUT YOU DON’T BUY IT FOR THAT. You buy it for OK Google. In our original Google Home Mini review, we rated it and the Google Home speaker at 4.2-out-of-5.
The cheapest way to get Google Assistant (unless you find a Home Mini at a giveaway price), On-board machine learning means slightly faster response, Far-field mic has improved, Still a mid-centric sound signature for clear voice
Not a speaker you want to listen to [good] music on
The Google Nest Mini remains a smart and enticing entry-point to Google Assistant in the home, with this update bringing the improvements where they matter the most.
Improved sound quality, More sustainable build, Built-in wall-mount, Power of Google Assistant, Physical microphone mute button, Improved on-device controls
No audio jack, No clock like new Echo Dot, Not really an upgrade if you own Google Home Mini
I absolutely can not picture a shower without this! I keep a mini in my bathroom, and it is the perfect addition to a fun shower / concert! You definitely need to purchase one of these and try for yourself! I promise you won’t go back to a music-less shower!
I guess I didn't read carefully enough. I have the Google Home where you can call out a song request and it will play that request from YouTube. The Google Nes Mini does not take a specific request, it will play from a list of songs it thinks are similar to your request, and it has commercials.
Very happy with sound quality for a small speaker. It works great by itself, but frequently does not play in groups. I have a Google Home and Home mini (1st version) and they work great together, but this nest mini doesn't play well in groups. The sound is a little better than the 1st version.
its not an alexa but it's pretty close. Bluetooth with music is loud. you can play games on it, ask the weather or any question you'd ask google on your phone for that matter.
This is the 3rd Google smart speaker I've bought--one for the common living area, one for the kids room, and this one for the master bedroom. It's easy to set up once you download the app. So convenient to just ask, "Hey Google" what is the weather, play music, set timer, etc....
I love these little speakers. I have 4 of them around the house. Great for turning on/off the lights, listening to the radio or just getting information from Google. I would not use this for serious music listening - there are other options for that; but for listening to the news or a talk show,...
The new google mini doesn't have many new features other than a nail hole in the back but the sound on the new mini is MUCH better and the touch controls are a lot better too. This should have been the mini from the beginning honestly. The sound is almost on par with the regular google speaker.
It works as stated. However, there are issues with connectivity to devices that I haven’t been able to figure out. Not sure where the problem is so I cannot blame the tiny device for it. It could be google home, cell phone google assistant or the smart tv google assistant.
Very concise at understanding most requests and sound is really solid/clear for such a small device. It's convenience really shines when you start outfitting your home with other Google-ready devices.
Great sound from this tiny speaker! I got one for my wife and my mother.Perfect for an apartment or the den. You can get one for each room of yourhouse and link them.
