The Garmin Forerunner 235 offers the best value for serious and casual runners looking for an all-in-one running watch and fitness tracker.

  • +

The Garmin Forerunner 235 has accurate GPS for tracking runs and a 24/7 wrist-based heart-rate monitor. It can track all-day activities like steps and sleep, and can display notifications from iPhone and Android devices. It's water-resistant and can be worn in the shower or while swimming.

  • -

Heart rate accuracy drops off during interval training, there are occasional connection and syncing problems and Garmin's Connect app can be confusing to navigate.

Thanks to its fast GPS, accurate heart-rate monitoring, and thin and light design, the Garmin Forerunner 235 is the best GPS running watch for the money.

  • +

Accurate GPS, heart-rate monitor, Very thin and light, Easy to read in sunlight, Customizable interface

  • -

App could be better organized, No built-in storage for music

The Forerunner 235 is one of the best GPS watches of 2016 – all the features a triathlete could ask for, combined with dedicated smartwatch features.

  • +

Built-in optical HRM, Full color, backlit display, Super lightweight and comfortable, Water resistant down to 50m, GLONASS and GPS

  • -

Optical HR sensor is not great for dynamic movements, Will not track swimming metrics, Battery life was disappointing at 3-5 days (might be updated through software update), Does not support triathlons

Keeping track of your daily run or bike ride is an important ability to many athletes. With full capabilities to track distance, time, heart rate, and more, the Garmin Forerunner 230 and 235 give you the upper hand in your workout regime.

Garmin Forerunner 235: The Forerunner 235 offers oodles of options, but accuracy feels a touch iffy

  • +

Oodles of features, Fantastically comprehensive app, Highly customisable display

  • -

    Iffy mid-run accuracy

The Garmin Forerunner 235 still manages to stand out, despite its age. A lower price helps, but the depth and breadth of its tracking skills and training insights ensure it can still compete with newer running watches.

  • +

Resting heart rate insights, Sharp looks, lightweight design, Good value

  • -

Intermittent syncing issues, A bit plastic, Sleep tracking needs work

Let’s just get this out of the way: the Forerunner 235 is in my opinion Garmin’s best watch yet. For some reason everything just meshes into a great timepiece. Where last year’s Forerunner 225 (review) showed where Garmin can go with a heart rate monitor built into the watch, the Forerunner 235...

  • +

Great look and feel, much improved app, all day heart rate monitoring

  • -

Four day battery life, Garmin website still needs work

GPS watch that can track a variety of activities and generate a load of helpful data about your activities. Stand-alone GPS means you can leave your smart phone at home. Waterproof with outstanding battery life, so fit for bad conditions, swims, stream crossings, and trips.

  • +

Stand-alone GPS, Waterproof, Serious ability to collect data about activities, Can add apps, Great battery life, Reasonable price

  • -

Not as many functions as more expensive models.

I had a Forerunner 405 previous to this 235. Big improvements. I like the buttons vs the bezel which was difficult at best to navigate at times. The screen is bigger and much easier to read with better contrast and bigger numbers.

  • +

Bigger and easier to read display, built in heart rate monitor, ability to customize display, can switch easily to cycling from running,

  • -

I wish the display was a bit brighter, in shade with sunglasses, it can be difficult to read but still better than the 405. The heart rate measurement can be erratic and unreliable. Can't use the old Garmin Training Center computer app which I preferred to use to get a quick view of workout data.

I use the watch primarily for running outdoors, and for cycling both outdoors and indoors. For running, it's great. It's relatively light (I had the Forerunner 10 before that). The Forerunner 235 is not bulky. I could wear it all day long, and won't even feel it (I don't usually wear watches).

I love this product for running. I haven't used the cycling, but had heard it was good for swimming. After I bought it, that wasn't true. I didn't use it for it, though, just found out by reading the instructions. I am on my second watch since February, but I need to exchange it again.

This watch is everything it promises to be. But the color of the Frost Blue model is much paler than shown in the picture.

I'm really satisfied with the accuracy of the Garmin Forerunner 235. The watch is very easy to use and includes a variety of functions and activities for me to monitor besides my daily steps and miles ran.

I have had the watch for a couple of weeks and used it last week for a 1/2 Marathon. both my husband and I have the watch and love it! We particularly like the versatility of the features it has. Would definitely recommend it.

Extremely happy with this running watch. Good quality, GPS and heart rate are very accurate. The app works well and sinks up with strava with little effort. I am not utilizing the other "smart watch" features because I am only using the running features, if you want a minimum frills accurate running...

Love my new Garmin. I have an old 210 that works perfectly, but does not give me the new metrics that the 235 gives. In our family we also have two 610 Forerunner watches and they are very clunky with trying to set up and maneuver through the touch screen. The 235 works much better.

Let me start by saying if the hear rate monitor was accurate it would be a 5/5 star rated watch but that isn't that case so I give it a solid 4/5 rating. I did a ton of research before buying and after 45 days I'm very satisfied.

  • +

GPS is very accurateGood LooksLightweightGood build qualityTons of other cool apps to personalize your workout programs and how the watch looks

  • -

Heart rate monitor not accurate all the time.
