The Fujifilm X-A5 is an entry point into the company’s X-series lineup of mirrorless cameras. It’ll serve beginners well with good image quality, but does have some limitations and disadvantages that are worth taking on board before you buy it.

  • +

Great image quality, Generously featured for the price, Stylish and easy to use, Good variety of film simulation modes

  • -

No electronic viewfinder, 4K video quality is underwhelming, Kit zoom is fiddly and feels plasticky, Some settings/features are buried within the menu

On paper the X-A5 looks pretty average, with average specs, an average price and a fairly predictable take on the low-end mirrorless camera. What elevates it above the ordinary, however, is its excellent image quality and the fact that you can capture sharp, well-exposed shots without really trying.

  • +

Great selfie mode with Eye AF, Excellent image quality, Sharp, clear shots even in poor light, Fujifilm’s Film Simulation modes, Effective dynamic range expansion

  • -

4K video at 15fps – what’s the point?, Adequate but unexceptional autofocus, No viewfinder, Can be tricky to hold for one-handed selfies, Sluggish zoom control on 15-45mm kit lens

The Fujifilm X-A5 is an attractive mirrorless camera with very strong image quality, but it's held back by inconsistent autofocus performance.

  • +

Strong image quality. Bundled with compact power zoom lens. Built-in flash and hot shoe. Dual control dials. Flip-up touch LCD. Microphone input. Wi-Fi.

  • -

Inconsistent focus speed. 4K video limited to 15fps. No 30fps option for 1080p video. No EVF.

Image quality is a key strength of the Fujifilm X-A5. Those 24.2MP images look great, with accurate exposure and pleasing colour rendition straight out of camera.Fine and intricate detail can be produced with wonderful clarity, even when shooting with the new low-cost, lightweight and small 15-45mm...

Still testing out my new camera. Trying to master the setting to optimize pictures. I purchased this before my trip to Europe next month. It is hard to write an objective view until you master all of the settings for the to take the best pictures you can. So far, I like the Fujifilm X-A5.

This camera produces the best color images I’ve seen! The price was great and I love the retro look! I highly recommend it!

I was attracted to the Fujifilm X-A5 body because of its fairly small size and weight, excellent picture quality, and attractive price. Also I hoped to use many of its easy to use features such as focus stacking, macro focus (at 15mm on the kit lens), and Velvia “film” settings.

I love everything about this camera, from its ultra-light weight and cute look to the cool power zoom lens and sharp images, except for the lack of viewfinder. Whyyyy, why didn't they add the tiny little viewfinder that is so important for outdoor shootings?

For $600, this camera is capable of delivering good photo and video performance compared to many premium, fixed-lens cameras. What I like about the X-A5 is that it has features that the X-T2 does not, including touch screen, dedicated movie record button, and pop-up flash.

I have had this camera for about a week, bought purely as an amateur/beginner and an upgrade and accompanyment to my XQ2 compact. This is the first mirrorless camera I have owned and at first it feels a bit plastic but it actually feels sturdy enough, it is nice, lightweight and not very bulky even...

Takes beautiful pictures. Needs a viewfinder.

For someone that comes from a cell phone, the XA5 will be a good first camera. For someone who is more use to the performance of a DSLR, higher end mirrorless, the XA5 will be a disappointment. Image quality is good in good light but not stellar and does not blow me away.
