The second-generation Amazon Echo Show 5 is nearly identical to the previous version, and remains a capable smart display for virtually anywhere in your home, particularly your nightstand.
Affordable, Small size for versatile placement, Useful Alexa features including smart home control and home monitoring
No significant upgrades from previous version, 3.5mm audio output has been removed
Amazon recently updated a couple of its Alexa-based Echo Show smart displays. The new Echo Show 8 (second gen) saw a couple of enhancements over its predecessor, but the smaller Echo Show 5 has received an even smaller refresh.
Loud, full sound for its size, Compact enough to put on a nightstand, Does everything an Echo speaker can do
Not any faster than the prior model, Upgraded camera is still not great, Limited video calling and video streaming options
“With barely any substantial upgrades, don't be surprised if you can't find a reason to buy this Alexa smart display.”
For the price, the Amazon Echo Show 5 is the best smart speaker out there. It’s not groundbreaking by any means — the camera is pretty lackluster and it’s a bit slow. But Alexa gets smarter all the time, the device is pretty well-designed, and it integrates pretty well with the rest of your smart...
Minor improvements make for just an average upgrade in this diminutive smart display
Better camera, Good speaker for size, Improved video calling, Home monitoring option, Privacy shutter
Sluggish touch screen, Hard of hearing, No audio jack, Not a good smart home controller
With a simplified screen that displays only what it immediately needs to show you, you can still easily display your photos, video chat with family and friends, voice control your Alexa-compatible smart devices, and stream both music and videos with a remarkably quick set-up process.
The Amazon Echo Show 5 take this smart technology and successfully compresses it into a very useful device!
It’s a low-key, functional addition to your home that can fit in nearly anywhere but is particularly at home on nightstands and in-home offices.
Upgraded 2-MP camera, New deep blue color option, Motion-activated routines, Functions as an indoor camera, New Kids edition, Drop Ins: Quickly and easily start a video call with other Alexa devices in your household., Intercom: Send a message to every Alexa-connected device in your home.
Small for video calls, Expensive if you only want Alexa features, Drop Ins: Quickly and easily start a video call with other Alexa devices in your household., Intercom: Send a message to every Alexa-connected device in your home. (“Dinner’s ready!
This tiny smart display is incredibly easy to use, especially if you already own other Alexa devices. Its 5.5inch screen is slightly too small to use in a kitchen, but for a bedroom or small office, the Amazon Echo Show 5 (2nd Gen, 2021) is perfect.
Alexa is always learning, Great for smart home control, Loads of smart features
No 3.5mm audio input, Small screen, Not that different to the 1st generation
During testing, the experience with the Echo Show 5 (2nd Generation) has been dominantly positive. So the short answer of would I recommend one is yes, but with a few caveats. These caveats are a quick revisit of points already made: The strengths of the Echo Show 5 and Alexa shine through when you...
We purchased this to use for our chime with the ring doorbell. It announces someone is at the door and chimes. The chime is simply that where this allows a multi use and all things you love about Alexa. So many added features that as a family we all love.
I bought this plus some indoor and outdoor cameras to be able to see when my cats were ready to come in at night. I’ve not used it to its full capacity but I love the screen for showing me the weather and what is playing on Sirius (in addition to the cats) and can’t wait to see what else it can do.
I love our echo show! It is the perfect size for my office in my home, and great for when I'm working. I can easily see the time, and it's perfect for any real-time weather alerts. Would definitely recommend!
1. I now know that I can't stand blipi. 2. This device, especially when paired with others, offers a lot of convenience and comfort in your day to to day life. It keeps the kids entertained and its camera offers a quick way to check up on the kiddos and my girls loved controling all the lights.
This works super well! The device is very responsive and can do just as much as your phone, along with drop ins and calling other Alexa products in your home! Alexa is a great edition and definitely recommend!
This is so slow!! It’s reaction time is really ridiculous, you ask it to play a video and like 3 minutes later it starts playing finally. My kid just keeps asking it again and again because it pauses for so long and she thinks it doesn’t understand her and as a result it gets confused and my kid is...
Love the product, work perfect and can even watch Netflix on it . My kids love it as well
We have the 1st and 2nd generations of the Echo Show. The voice recognition is wonderful! We have used it to get our messages, turn off and on lights, and phone calls with video. It’s nice that Alexa works well, her voice is very clear, you can change the volume and brightness on the app, or by the...
Easy for recipes, checking the ring and making announcements to the kids.
I bought this as part of a promotion and i'm sure glad I didn't pay retail. It's PURE GARBAGE. It's SLOW as molasses and very seldom responds to my voice (I often have to be facing it and use an elevated voice which is off putting because I use Alexa to turn off my lights at night whilst the kids...
