I purchased the Zoom Q4 to have a 'handy' video recorder with high-quality sound for documentary interviews, general purpose recording, and a 'B' camera placement in odd locations during a shoot.
I enjoyed using this camera for recording live music until I used it with a tripod. The SD card slot is on the bottom of the camera next to the tripod screw hole so when you mount a tripod (in this case a Canon Tripod-3) the SD card and slot are crushed.
Sound quality is excellent and fully adjustable. Video quality is completely adjustable. For the cost they might want to think about including a HDMI to Micro cable that IS required and had to be purchased separately... Overall, very satisfied!
This is not the greatest video-camera or audio recorder and for the price don't expect it to be, but it can save your day. When taping live performances I put it on a 13 foot light pole, with an external battery taped to it, connected to the camera via USB.
Tiny but efficient.
After a few months with this recorder, I'm completely satisfied. As a musician, I really appreciate the sound quality of the recordings. As a videographer, I would love if the unit had a zoom lens rather than just the two available settings. That being said, the quality of the lens is good.
Never consider using this camera unless there is total sunlight. The video will be totally grainy!
I'm sorry I bought it, and worse still as a gift to someone. Sound is good for the size, nothing to write home about but I suppose good for the price but the picture is abject, like a video toy from 20 years, or what you'd expect from a cheap security camera.
I looked at a lot of information before ultimately purchasing this camera, which was at an AMAZINg price compared to other places. I like the end results of the audio and video, and I even like the much wider video angle.
This is a well made (Zoom) camera that is great for little camera work. 1080P and down, all good. light as a feather, easy to navigate, records to SD card, stereo mic's w/wind screen. $149.00 hard to beat.
