Carl Zeiss Planar T* 85mm f/1.4 ZE, along with its ZF.2 version for Nikon, is one of a handful new SLR lenses that Carl Zeiss started manufacturing after the demise of Contax relationship with Kyocera.
I already praised this lens in an earlier review. I'm posting this just to show how it handles severe flare conditions.I post two pictures below, one taken with the Canon 85 mm f1.2 and the other with the Otus 85. There is nothing more to say.
Excellent lens. Flawless as advertised.
I purchased the Zeiss 85 Otus after great disappointment with Canon's EF 85mm f/1.2. The autofocus reliability and edge sharpness on Canon's lens was mediocre at best.I decided to get the best on the market and I am NOT DISSAPOINTED! I rarely took Canon's 85mm below f2.0 for sharpness reasons.
I bought this for portrait, landscape, and architecture photos. It is very expensive, but every reviewer says that. It is fun to use...I'm a novice at manual shooting, but with my Nikon 810, it's a breeze. I took a few pictures in Chicago this weekend...and it was sharp and accurate.
Yes, it has incredible resolution and contrast. You can find specs on this and reviews elsewhere. However, having used the lens for three months now, the most significant feature of the lens which puts it head and shoulders above other fine lenses is its astonishing lack of flare.
