I would consider myself a beginner photographer and I love this lens. For some reason, I saw so many good reviews about this lens, hence went ahead and bought it. First two weeks; horrible.
I've had this lens for awhile now. Not as good as I expected from Zeiss. Possibly I received a bad or poorly calibrated unit. Most of the Zeiss lenses I have rented will go to the infinity mark and truly be in focus.
Lovely sharp image even wide open. The way it blurs the skin is amazing and rather than blur it's more like a skin softener right out of the lens. And the bokeh.... Oh, it's amazing. Great minimum distance as well. Built like a tank, the only plastic on it is the lens cap.
One of the best lenses I have ever owned. I enjoy this lens more so than a lot of the Canon L Glass I have had. You have to take the time to learn to shoot with this, it is no easy task being able to manual focus fast moving subjects in changing light conditions.
Very nice lens, although a bit of challenging to use when it is wide open. Very sharp at f5.6, a kind of soft at f1.4. Need practice to improve the image quality at wide open. It is very compact lens and the build quality is excellent. very good for walk around purpose.
Well Zeiss is awesome, but if you're manual focusing a 50mm on a 35mm body... your eyes will die and then you can say goodbye to being a photographer. I would get this one instead:
I purchased this lens about a week ago and doing a shot list for a short film I imagined I would need a 100m, 85, 50, and 35 for a great range of shots and angles. I finished shooting yesterday and the one thing that was consistent throughout my entire day was that my 50 was on my camera the ENTIRE...
First thing's first: 99% of the bad reviews for this lens are due to user error. Great lens. Stupid fast if you're willing to sacrifice a bit of sharpness. The manual focus is buttery and overall build quality is top-tier. My favorite lens, period.
I bought this to use it mostly for video on my A7sii. I love the manual focus and the build. It feels strong and heavy, how a real lens should feel
Awesome lens, great bokeh. Depends on the user handling otherwise this lens is all praises. Great add to my lens collection!
