This lens is sharp and captures incredible detail, especially in the near and middle distances. Color and contrast are wonderful and the files straight from the camera are the best. There is some vignetting wide open but I have not found that to be an issue.
I really want to like this lens but after buying the Sigma Art 18mm-35mm lens, I wish I had never purchased this Ziess lens.
Great lens with super sharp image.
I bought this to create sharp landscape/sunset images on a Nikon D800. Focus is precise, speed is fast. Focus ability is from close to infinity with solid depth of field. I have had zero issues with this lens. High quality for a reasonable price.
I'm a wide angle guy and I shoot a mixture of everyting, from landscape to close up to street. I have the Zeiss 21, this 25, and the 35 f2.0. I love the 21 like nobody's business, but this is my most used lens - perfect focal length for me, right between 24 and 28, previously my two favorite focal...
This is my third lens in the 24/25 range and definitely the best. One nice feature is the aperture ring. I can use it on both my FM2 and D800. Center sharpness is outstanding. Chromatic aberration is well controlled and this alone makes it my best lens in this focal range.
This is an exceptional lens, low distortion of off axis planes, very close focus, excellent sharpness, super super lens.
The more you pay for a product, the more you want to believe it is the best... The Zeiss 25mm f2 is great, but not so great as to justify paying $700 more than the already great f2.8 version. I ordered both. I compared them side by side. And I was ready the throw the $700 IF it proved to be better.
If you can live without autofocus, the 25mm/2 Distagon is one of the best wideangles ever made. It has very well corrected lateral and longitudinal chromatic aberrations, high resolution and contrast, and superb all metal build quality.
After being spoiled with auto focus, it takes awhile to get used to focusing with a manual focus lens agian, but the efforts are well worth it. This lens is smooth and crisp with superb tonality and microcontrast. I doubt I will ever purchase other than Zeiss optics again for my Nikons.
