As long as you don't demand the latest surround and streaming features, the Yamaha RX-V483 offers excellent sound at an affordable price.

The Yamaha RX-V483 offers excellent performance for the money with both music and movies. Multiroom music and Bluetooth adds playback flexibility. Build quality is solid, and the remote control isn't terrible.

There's only four HDMI ports, and the user interface is a little tired-looking. Not compatible with Chromecast or Dolby Atmos.
Arrived one day early in excellent condition. it is connected to direct TV genie DVR receiver, Blue ray player, and DVD RW recorder/player and HD TV, everything functions great. This is my second Yamaha, both replaced Sony A/V receivers, the Sony was intermittent accessing the HDMI input ports,...
The Yamaha is excellent. Very nice sound, easy set up. It just works. This replaced an older Yamaha that was finally failing after several years. The new features on this unit, like Apple airplay and full Bluetooth, are easy to use and nice to have.

None at all.
I wanted a 5.1 receiver with wifi and bluetooth. I expected to get good FM reception and internet radio. I was disappointed in both. It does not directly support Spotify with Tidal and Deezer both subscription services. After a firmware update, Pandora is supported.

Sounds good

Poor FM sensitivity and lacks internet music apps
Don't like that all the surround channels have 5 individual volume controls, too much work to adjust. If the (front left and right) (center) (surround left and right) were the volume sets it would be perfect.

HDMI pass thru is not a true pass thruNo analog Bass and Treble controls
An OK AV receiver for the price. Timely firmware updates is a plus. However, while it has standby pass-through on the HDMI, it does not "automatically" use the pass-through that sees signal. You have to remember to revert back to the TV input each time, or it won't pass TV signal through.

HDMI passthrough is awkward. Must be set to the input you want before poering off
I was blown away by how much I love this AV receiver. My old Marantz was working just fine but when I moved to a more open concept house putting speakers up was totally not possible. So I put all the speakers up front and delayed the surround sound backs a little. It was okay.

The APP - you can control the entire receiver from any smart phoneThe Virtual surround - It works great. I don't know how and don't care. Probably won't be good enough for an audiophile but perfect for the rest of us.

You can change the DSP from the app. There are plenty of options and you can even customize it a little to fit your sitting arrangement. You can make it sound awesome. The con about this is. Every movie or sports program requires a different DSP to sound awesome.
