The Yamaha RX-V481 checks most of the must-have feature boxes, and still delivers excellent sound quality for a mid-price receiver.
The Yamaha RX-V481 offers very good audio performance in a relatively affordable bundle. It offers numerous streaming services over Wi-Fi plus the ability to stream to a Bluetooth headphone. HDMI ports support 4K video and HDR sources.
The total of just four HDMI ports means users with more than one gaming console, for example, may need to look elsewhere. Competitors such as Pioneer and Sony are supporting the versatile Google Cast system.
I loved its light weight, and easy speaker hookup. The Setup however, was not so easy with the computer ROM instead of a booklet for the owners manual. I was not able to get the ROM to work in my Apple Macbook Pro, so the next day I had to download the manual from the internet.
Clean Balanced Sound
No Owners Manual On Paper
As promised. It is a good value for the price. Set up was simple and effects are a little more than I need. It paired well with a powered sub and smaller front speakers. The sound is crisp and was flexible enough. One thing I liked specifically it can act as a Bluetooth receiver AND transmitter.
My previous Yamaha Receiver was a 900 series and I had cassette, reel to reel tape decks, DVD, CD, PS3 components attached as well as Dish Network and 4DTV (old school satellite). The new receiver has HDMI ports and very few input output ports which makes my old components obsolete.
Easy to install very few connections required.
Old component hook ups are limited and a larger receiver with more ports is needed if you have a large amount of components to connect. I have a 5.1Klipsch speaker system so I did not want to upgrade that and this was the largest receiver that accomodated my 5.1 system.
