hooked up to the TV, use for listening to CD's, records. would have rated it a 5 but it has poor reception on some of my favorite stations and the antenna was cheap and had to purchase a new one.
Accurate Controls, Easy To Set Up, Energy Efficient, Good Power Output, Good Remote Control, Great Sound Quality
Poor Reception / Weak Antenna
This review is for the R-S500BL Receiver - Let me start this out by stating I am not an audiophile. When I finally decided I was going to plunk down a solid bit of money to configure a 2 channel stereo for my new home I did a little bit of research and ended up selecting this receiver based on price...
We use this on a regular basis and couldn't ask for anything better.
The sound quality leaves a lot to be desired. Also, the front panel display will NOT stay on. AM radio reception is terrible.
Great bang for the buck!
Very happy with this receiver , I use the natural sound setting and just played with the gain on my sub till I got the amount of bass I wanted and really have not touched a thing but the source and volume on the remote . Plenty of power for normal sized living room .
Works great. Easy to use.
Great unit. A good tuner for weak signal areas (as long as a decent antenna is used). Plenty of input/output options. Best feature (which Yamaha thankfully retained from earlier models, and which seems to be a exclusively Yamaha) is the continuously variable loudness compensation control.
This unit was purchased to replace a 20 year old Yamaha receiver in the RX series. I was looking for a good, not cosmic, audio amplifier/receiver and had no need for home theatre support.
Too bad. Yamaha engineers still don't understand the Fletcher-Munson loudness circuit. On this receiver they call it variable loudness control but that control changes the VOLUME too. That's not what you want.
